  • Former NFL OL Damion Cook passed away after suffering a heart attack the age of 36.
Maurice Clarett, who played with Cook in the UFL, confirmed the cause of death. Our deepest condolences go out to his loved ones.

  • The Dolphins are expected to sign OL Damion Cook to a one-year contract today.

  • FA Guard #75
The Lions are giving Daniel Loper a chance to start at left guard this season.
He’ll be an upgrade over Damion Cook, who was pushed into the lineup when Edwin Mulitalo cratered last season. Schwartz is also high on last year’s first-rounder Gosder Cherilus, saying he will take advantage of the right tackle’s run-blocking ability.
  • Lions placed OL Damion Cook on injured reserve with a triceps injury, ending his season.
Cook injured the tendon during practice on Thursday. He was fighting for a job as a backup, but was a long shot despite starting six games under Rod Marinelli last season. The new coaching staff is moving ahead with Daniel Loper.

He replaces Ed Mulitalo, who struggled early in the season. Cook is a former CFL player. The Lions, as always, lack a good offensive line.
  • Lions re-signed Damion Cook to a one-year contract.
Cook started four games last season, mostly because Edwin Mulitalo’s play fell off a cliff. He’s slated for backup duty again in 2009.
