McKay

McKay passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment last week and has been granted his release to search for a new opportunity. The 27-year-old right-hander has made four relief appearances combined this season between the Yankees, Rays and Athletics.

Oakland needed to clear out a 40-man roster spot for their September 1 callup decisions. McKay, 27, has allowed five earned runs on eight hits and four walks in 6 2/3 innings this season at the major league level.

McKay threw 2 2/3 innings in relief Sunday in his lone appearance with the A’s. They’ll replace him with a fresh arm.

McKay was claimed off of waivers from the Rays in the week leading up to the All-Star break. He owns a 6.46 ERA and 35/22 K/BB ratio across 30 2/3 innings in his career at the big league level. He’s likely to work in a middle relief role for the A’s.

McKay has been booted from the Rays’ 40-man roster to make room for newly acquired backup catcher Christian Bethancourt. The 27-year-old righty has made three relief appearances this season in the majors between the Yankees and Rays.

McKay was torched for four runs over two innings on Friday in a relief appearance against the Blue Jays. He’s been shipped back to the minors, allowing the Rays to bring up a fresh bullpen arm for Saturday’s doubleheader.

McKay was just re-acquired by the Rays from the Yankees last week after the Yanks had designated him for assignment. He’ll operate in middle relief.

McKay was designated for assignment by New York on Tuesday afternoon. The 27-year-old right-hander has registered a career 5.65 ERA and 35/20 K/BB ratio in 28 2/3 innings at the major league level. He will report for now to the Triple-A affiliate of the Rays in Durham.

McKay has been jettisoned from the Yankees’ 40-man roster to make room for righty reliever Albert Abreu to be claimed off waivers from the Royals. The 27-year-old righty fired two scoreless innings in a pair of relief appearances earlier this season at the major-league level. It’s possible he sneaks through waivers and remains with the organization as extra relief depth.
