Diaz lost his spot on the Angels’ 40-man roster in August. He’ll look for a minor league deal this winter.

Diaz struggled in his short stay in the big leagues, producing a miserable 15.75 ERA over five outings. The 27-year-old should get another chance with the Reds later this year.

The Reds are desperate to find some effective relievers and will now give Diaz a shot. The 27-year-old holds a 1.88 ERA and 7/4 K/BB ratio over 14 1/3 relief frames for Louisville this season. He’ll be making his major league debut when he gets into a game.

The right-hander is one of many relief pitchers that have struggled in the Reds bullpen this season, compiling a 9.45 ERA and 2.55 WHIP across 6 2/3 innings. He’s expected to pass through waivers without issue and continue to provide organizational bullpen depth.

Diaz has allowed eight runs -- seven earned -- in four innings this season at the major league level. The right-hander will pitch in low-leverage situations.

The 27-year-old right-hander spent the 2016 season in the Reds’ organization, posting a 3.05 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 46/16 K/BB ratio across 56 innings at Triple-A Louisville and struggling in six outings with the big league club. He adds bullpen depth for the Astros but is unlikely to crack the Opening Day roster.

Diaz is expected to arrive early this week. The late start shouldn’t affect his chances at winning an Opening Day bullpen job, although the odds weren’t great to begin with.

This was supposed to be Dallas Keuchel’s assignment, but he was scratched due to an illness and Diaz, who was just recalled this afternoon, got the nod in his place. Diaz figures to head to the bullpen now, assuming that he isn’t simply shipped out for a fresh arm tomorrow.

Diaz was lit up in his one appearance this season at the major league level, but the 28-year-old right-hander boasts a 1.93 ERA and 23/7 K/BB ratio in 23 1/3 innings at Triple-A. He’ll work in middle relief.

Diaz holds a 12.00 ERA over seven relief appearances with the big club this season. Reymin Guduan is replacing him in the bullpen.
