Packers selected Purdue WR DeAngelo Yancey with the No. 175 overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft.
Yancey (6’2/220) tallied a career receiving line of 141-2,344-20 (16.6 YPR) as a near-four-year starter at Purdue, leading the Big Ten in yards per reception (19.4) as a senior and finishing third in receiving TDs (10). Yancey showed average athleticism at the Boilermakers’ Pro Day, running 4.53 with a 35 ½-inch vertical but shining in the three-cone drill (6.84). Yancey generated minimal pre-draft buzz because he struggles to separate and drops too many passes, but he is big with some downfield playmaking ability, which makes him flier worthy.

    Packers waived WR DeAngelo Yancey.
Fellow WRs Malachi Dupre, Max McCaffrey, and Michael Clark join Yancey hitting the waiver wire. Yancey was the No. 175 overall pick in this year’s draft, but the Packers’ receiver group is annually one of the toughest to crack.

Green Bay Press-Gazette’s Ryan Wood believes WR DeAngelo Yancey is a long shot to make the Packers’ roster.
Yancey has primarily been used in the slot during the preseason. With Randall Cobb already pegged as the club’s starting slot receiver, and rookie WR Equanimeous St. Brown playing 71% of his preseason snaps in the slot, Yancey has become expendable to a team rich in assets at receiver. Wood also believes rookie WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling is a good bet to make the roster given what he’s shown so far (8-6-116-1) in the preseason.

Packers signed WR DeAngelo Yancey, WR Jake Kumerow, WR Colby Pearson, TE Robert Tonyan and LS Zach Triner to reserve/future contracts.
A 2017 UDFA out of Purdue, Yancey spent his rookie year on the practice squad. He caught three balls for 67 yards in the preseason.
