Grullon

Grullon, 26, spent 2020 in the Red Sox organization before bouncing around on the waiver wire last year. He has nice pop for a catcher, but contact is an issue and his defense draws mixed reviews. He’ll probably spend most of the season at Triple-A Worcester.

Grullón was acquired from the Rays via trade back in mid-July. The 25-year-old backstop could latch on as emergency catching depth somewhere in the final month of the regular season.

Grullon has a total of 12 at-bats in the majors -- three of the last year for the Red Sox -- but has been claimed off waivers and designated for assignment by several organizations over the past few years. In 75 plate appearances with Triple-A Durham, the 25-year-old is slashing .226/.347/.522 with six homers over 21 games. He should provide organizational depth for the White Sox over the final half of the season.

Grullon has bounced around multiple organizations in recent months, but the Rays managed to get him through waivers. He posted some good numbers in the minors from 2018-2019 in the minors and makes for useful depth.

Grullon was claimed off waivers by the Rays last month. The club needed to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for Matt Wisler.

Grullón has ping-ponged between the Red Sox, Reds, Mets and Rays organizations for nearly six months. It sounds like he’ll stick with the Rays at Triple-A as organizational catching depth for now. He might want to keep his suitcase packed as a precautionary measure just in case.

Grullon was just claimed off waivers from the Rays in late April, but he’s being removed from the Mets’ 40-man roster now to open up a spot for Wilfredo Tovar, who is joining the team on Tuesday.

Deivy Grullón will reportedly be designated for assignment to clear a spot on the 40-man roster. The Mets are dealing with a wave of injuries and Tovar will be asked to be a stopgap. The 29-year-old previously played in nine games with the Mets between 2013-2014 and hit just .193/.239/.253 over 88 plate appearances during his last stint in the majors with the Angels in 2019. He’s purely depth for now.

Grullon was designated for assignment by Tampa Bay on Saturday. He’s a depth addition for the Mets.

The Rays needed to clear a roster spot for closer Diego Castillo to return. Grullon didn’t make an appearance during his brief stint at the major-league level. He’ll report to the team’s alternate site if he clears waivers.
