Falcons signed Penn State DL Derrick Tangelo.
After four seasons at Duke, Tangelo (6’2/296) transferred to Penn State for his final season, totaling 29 tackles, 5.5 TFLs, and two sacks. He started every game for Penn State in 2021 and stepped up his play after fellow defensive tackle and 2023 draft prospect PJ Mustipher was lost for the season. With above-average athleticism and a 7.49 relative athletic score, Tangelo shows good lateral movement against blockers and has the ability to work through double teams, although he’s probably better suited as a one-gapper. He’ll show a high motor at times and can be spotted chasing down a ball carrier from behind to make a stop. With his move to the Big 10 in 2021, Tangelo’s PFF grades in both run defense and pass rush dropped, a testament to the improved competition he faced. He will win more with his athleticism than he will his size.
