The Athletic’s Zack Rosenblatt believes RB Donovan Edwards will make the Jets roster.
Edwards, who signed with New York as an undrafted free agent after the 2025 NFL Draft, faces an uphill battle to make the final roster behind Breece Hall, Braelon Allen, and Isaiah Davis. Rosenblatt said “Edwards’ pass-catching skills are his best path to the roster” after the back totaled 86 receptions in four years in college, at 9.3 yards per reception. The highly-athletic Edwards excelled in some big spots for Michigan over the years but never fully emerged as the player many expected to see after his stellar 2022 campaign. If he makes the New York roster, Edwards would likely operate as a special teamer or pass-catching specialist out of the backfield.

Jets signed Michigan RB Donovan Edwards.
Edwards (5’11/205) played in a crowded backfield in 2021 as a true freshman at Michigan, but still managed 439 yards from scrimmage and four touchdowns on just 55 touches, with most of his production coming in the passing game (20-265-1). He shined in 2022 and 2023 playing in a split backfield with current Rams running back Blake Corum, and averaged an impressive 7.1 YPC in 2022 while rushing for 140-991-7. Last season should have been Edwards’ chance to make the most of his opportunities, but the College Football 25 cover boy slipped to No. 2 on the team’s running back depth chart in his final year, and was out-produced by fifth-year prospect Kalel Mullings who played primarily as a linebacker for the first three years of his career. It was a forgettable season for Edwards, who had shone in big spots for Michigan over the years but never fully emerged as the player many expected to see after his stellar 2022 campaign. While he should benefit from having ideal size and athleticism (9.78 RAS, 4.44 40-yard dash), at the position, Edwards’ lack of efficiency while playing for one of the nation’s top rushing programs is concerning. He averaged a paltry 2.74 YCO/ATT for his career, ranking amongst the lowest of any running back prospect since 2020, and his missed tackles forced rate of 15.3 percent puts him in similarly disappointing territory. Even during his impressive 2022 season, Edwards’ production was largely built on what was blocked for him, not what he created. He’s logged only nine special teams snaps in his career, per PFF, but Edwards will likely need to carve out a role on special teams if he hopes to buy himself a longer look at the pro level.

Michigan freshman RB Donovan Edwards (undisclosed) is not available for Saturday’s game against Indiana.
Edwards (6'0/202) will sit for a second consecutive week, as he was also held out of last weekend’s loss to Michigan State. The freshman, who was third in line behind Brock Corum and Hassan Haskins, has rushed for 139 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries this season.

Michigan freshman RB Donovan Edwards carried eight times for 86 yards and two touchdowns in a 63-10 victory over NIU this Saturday.
Edwards (5'11/190) is a five-star freshman recruit who arrived on campus this spring with a whirlwind of hype surrounding him. He only saw seven carries for 31 yards in Michigan’s first two games as he got acclimated to the speed of the college game, however he eclipsed that mark today in addition to cashing in the first two touchdowns of his career. Though he currently slots in as the Wolverines’ third-string RB, Edwards’ future as a featured back is exceedingly bright.

Michigan received a commitment from four-star 2021 RB Donovan Edwards.
While the Wolverines suffered two recruiting losses on the defensive side of the football Wednesday morning, Jim Harbaugh’s program picked up an important recruiting win during the afternoon. Williams (5'11/190) made the decision to remain in-state for his college career, picking Michigan over a hard-charging Georgia. Notre Dame was also believed to be in the running for the four-star running back from West Bloomfield, Michigan. 247Sports recruiting analyst has compared Williams to Saints running back Alvin Kamara, as he can be effective as both a ball-carrier and receiver out of the backfield.

Uncommitted four-star 2021 RB Donovan Edwards is taking an unofficial visit to Michigan State on Sunday.
Edwards (5'11/190) took a nice little Big Ten two-step this weekend, checking out Ohio State on Friday and onward to Michigan State on Sunday. On the field, the West Bloomfield, Michigan, native blends physicality and speed in a way that reminds 247Sports’ Allen Trieu a bit of Alvin Kamara. The 247Sports composite board slots in Edwards as the No. 38 overall prospect in the 2021 class.
