Rams signed QB Dylan Thompson, formerly of the 49ers.
The second-year UDFA out of South Carolina completed 24-of-40 passes for 277 yards and a 2:2 TD:INT ratio last preseason. He’s a camp body for when the Rams release or trade Nick Foles, who hasn’t reported to the team.
  • FA Quarterback #2
    49ers waived QB Dylan Thompson.
He became expendable when the Niners selected Louisiana Tech QB Jeff Driskel in the sixth round of last week’s draft. Thompson was promoted to the active roster late last season but never saw the field.
  • FA Quarterback #2
49ers signed South Carolina QB Dylan Thompson.
Thompson (6'2/217) succeeded Connor Shaw for the Gamecocks, starting for one season and completing 59.9 percent of his passes with a 26:11 TD-to-INT ratio. He showed good athleticism for a quarterback at the South Carolina Pro Day, running 4.74 with a 35-inch vertical. Thompson flashed the ability to drive throws in the SEC, but is viewed as a mess mechanically and his ball placement was scattershot. He’s not much of an NFL prospect.
  • FA Quarterback #2
49ers promoted QB Dylan Thompson from the practice squad.
With Colin Kaepernick on I.R, Thompson will back up Blaine Gabbert. A one-year starter at South Carolina, Thompson completed 59.9 percent of his passes with a 26:11 TD/INT ratio in the SEC last season. The 49ers have one of the worst quarterback situations in the league.
