Santana

Santana was placed on the injured list just before the final weekend of the regular season due to a right intercostal strain. Now he’s off the Braves’ roster completely after the club needed to clear a 40-man roster spot to activate lefty Tucker Davidson from the 60-day injured list. The 30-year-old righty posted a respectable 3.59 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, and 33/12 K/BB ratio over 42 2/3 innings of relief this season.

The 29-year-old hurler has pitched well out of the Braves bullpen this season, registering a 3.59 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 33/12 K/BB ratio in 42 2/3 innings of work. The Braves purchased the contract of Spencer Strider in a corresponding move.

Santana has been away from the team since Wednesday, but will be active for Sunday’s pivotal matchup against the Padres. The 29-year-old righty has allowed just one run over five innings since September 4.

Santana figures to join back up with the current NL East leaders this weekend in San Diego. The 29-year-old reliever leaves behind a 3.59 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, and 33/12 K/BB ratio in 42 2/3 innings of work.

He will return to the Braves’ bullpen ahead of Tuesday night’s game at Dodger Stadium, replacing the injured Josh Tomlin. Santana, 29, has pitched to a 3.82 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, and 31/9 K/BB ratio in 37 2/3 innings this season with Atlanta.

Atlanta needed to make room on the active roster for Ian Anderson, who was activated from the injured list on Sunday, and Santana was the odd man out. The right-hander posted a 3.82 ERA and 1.12 WHIP over 37 2/3 innings this season at the major league level.

Santana allowed two runs over three innings during his short stint in the majors. Carl Edwards Jr. is taking his spot in the bullpen.

Santana was acquired from the Pirates shortly after Opening Day. It’s his first stint in the majors since 2018.

Santana had been designated for assignment earlier this week. He’ll go to the Braves’ alternate training site and wait for a chance to join the big league bullpen.

The move clears a spot for right-hander Kyle Keller on the 40-man roster. Santana is coming of a two-year layoff (Tommy John surgery, PED suspension), but he’s shown some potential in the past and could draw some interest on waivers.
