Hacker

Hacker wasn’t terrible in his first career start, but was only called up to keep the rest of the Giants rotation on schedule. It’s possible he could reappear in the majors at some point.

Nothing official from the team yet, but he’ll likely take the roster spot of Eric Hacker, who is making a spot start Friday. Edlefson has a 1.42 ERA and 5/4 K/BB ratio over 6 1/3 innings at the Triple-A level this year.

Hacker pitched quite well in his first major league start, allowing eight hits while walking two and striking out seven. He was only up for a spot-start, but the quality outing may put him in consideration for another look at some point down the line. Look for him to be optioned back to the minor leagues on Saturday, though.

Hacker has registered a 4-0 record, 2.19 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in 24 2/3 innings this season at the Triple-A level. The 29-year-old right-hander can boast only 8 1/3 innings of major league experience, however, and should be avoided in most fantasy leagues even against the light-hitting Friars.

As expected, Hacker will make a spot start Friday night against the Padres. He’s only up because the Giants played a doubleheader against the Mets earlier in the week, so his stay should be brief. Feel free to ignore in fantasy leagues.

Hacker made two appearances with the Twins this past April, but spent the majority of the season with Triple-A Rochester, posting an ugly 6.10 ERA across 25 starts and one relief appearance. The 28-year-old right-hander pitched with Triple-A Fresno in the Giants’ organization in 2010.

Hacker allowed 14 hits and six earned runs in 9 2/3 innings with the Giants earlier this season. The 29-year-old right-hander is likely to pass through waivers.

Hacker gave up three runs over six innings against the Padres in a spot start back on April 27 and has a 3.95 ERA and 99/42 K/BB ratio over 143 2/3 innings in 24 starts at the Triple-A level this year. He’ll pitch as a long man out of the bullpen.

There has not yet been a corresponding move, but it’s expected that Shane Loux will be recalled on Sunday. Hacker has posted a 5.19 ERA, 1.62 WHIP and 7/2 K/BB ratio over 8 2/3 innings with the Giants this season. He’ll likely return when rosters expand in September.
