    It was the opener for the Czech Republic, while China dropped to 0-2. The Czechs got homers from Matej Mensik and Martin Muzik. Sogard, last seen with the Cubs before being released in 2021, is the only current or former major leaguer on the Czech Republic’s roster, though they do also have longtime minor league catcher Martin Cervenka. He went 0-for-4 in this one.

    The injury is believed to be minor and shouldn’t require much longer than a minimum stay on the injured list. The 35-year-old has hit .250/.287/.313 with one homer and 11 RBI in 171 plate appearances this season. Sergio Alcantara was recalled in a corresponding move.

    Eric Sogard singled twice, drove in a run and stole a base Wednesday against the Brewers.
    Sogard plated a run with a bunt single in the Cubs’ seven-run first inning and then stole second base. Little did he know at the time that he would eventually be needed on the mound as the Brewers went on to outscore the Cubs 15-0 the rest of the way. Sogard arguably had the best appearance of any Cubs pitcher, tossing a scoreless frame which included a strikeout of Daniel Robertson.

    Bryant is working through some discomfort along his right side, brought on by a couple recent diving plays in the infield and outfield. He’s considered day-to-day. Eric Sogard will cover third base and bat seventh in Wednesday’s matinee game against the Brewers. Joc Pederson, Jake Marisnick, and Ian Happ are across the outfield.

    It was initially reported as a planned day off, but Bryant is actually dealing with some side soreness after a few recent diving plays in the field. Eric Sogard is in at third base and batting eighth versus Brandon Woodruff. Joc Pederson, Ian Happ, and Jason Heyward will start across the outfield. Patrick Wisdom is playing first.

    Eric Sogard went 1-for-3 and scored the go-ahead run in the third inning on Sunday night as the Cubs shut out the Cardinals at Wrigley Field.
    Sogard led off the third inning with a double off of Cardinals right-hander Carlos Martinez. He then advanced to third on a ground ball off the bat of Sergio Alcantara and dashed home on an error by Cardinals shortstop Paul DeJong. He collected just one of four total hits for the Cubs in the victory, and the only one that went for extra bases. With the 1-for-3 effort he’s now hitting .240/.282/.314 with one homer, 10 RBI and two stolen bases in 131 plate appearances on the season.

    Sogard will have an opportunity to get additional playing time at second base after the Cubs’ placed Nico Hoerner on the injured list earlier on Wednesday. The veteran infielder is batting .266 this season with a home run, two doubles, a triple, and two stolen bases.
