Chiefs signed Florida State DT Fabien Lovett.
Lovett (6'3/307) originally broke out as a starter in the hallowed SEC in his redshirt Freshman year at Mississippi State in 2019. He would then transfer to Florida State where he would earn two Honorable Mentions All-ACC and was voted team captain in 2023 despite being replaced in the starting lineup by Western Michigan transfer Braden Fiske. Lovett is a squatting 4-point stance one tech, though Florida State did play their iDLs interchangeably. His maturity shows, both as a leader and as a processor on the field. Lovett is quick to find the ball and shows hustle even when the play is away from him or when he is double-teamed. His sumo move is well-refined and is effective in freeing both himself and the linebackers behind him. Lovett is a primarily stationary player and struggles to free himself in pass rush, though he does have a good pull-push move. Lovett will need to become more mobile and use his length to throw his weight around if he intends to be more than a space-eating one-tech in the pros.
  • NE Defensive Lineman #96
Florida State redshirt sophomore DL Fabien Lovett announced his plans to return to school in 2022.
Lovett (6'4/315) started nine games for the Seminoles at defensive tackle in 2021 according to Pro Football Focus, and totaled 24 tackles, 20 quarterbacks pressures and two sacks on the year. In what was his second season at Florida State after transferring from Mississippi State following the 2019 season, Lovett saw a rise in all of his defensive numbers from 2020, after playing on nearly twice as many snaps. Lovett was a member of the 2018 recruiting class, and could have opted to turn pro or transfer, but his return for the Seminoles in 2022 is an encouraging piece of news for a team looking to rebound next season.

Florida State redshirt sophomore DL Fabien Lovett was granted an eligibility waiver from the NCAA.
Lovett (6'4"/315) hit the portal from Mississippi State in April and tweeted out an FSU commitment before that month was out, but it was subsequently reported that he was likely going to transfer to Ole Miss. No dice for Rebs HC Lane Kiffin on that one, ultimately. Lovett, a former three-star recruit, recorded 19 tackles and a sack while playing as a redshirt sophomore with the Bulldogs last season.

This one was a little muddled along the way after Lovett entered the transfer portal in early April. The 6-foot-4, 315-pounder tweeted out a commitment to Florida State later that month, but as May was coming to a close, it was reported that Lovett looked to actually be on his way to an Ole Miss transfer. That brief moment of drama was officially squashed when FSU announced his addition to roster on Wednesday. Lovett initially signed with the Bulldogs as a three-star recruit in the 2018 class. After taking a redshirt his first year on campus, he appeared in 13 games this past season, registering 19 tackles and a sack in that space. Moving on to the Seminoles, now, Lovett will be required to sit out the 2020 season barring an eligibility waiver from the NCAA.

AL.com’s Matt Zenitz reports that former Mississippi State redshirt sophomore DL Fabien Lovett will “likely” transfer to Ole Miss.
Lovett (6'4/315) hit the transfer portal in early April and actually tweeted out a FSU commitment later in the month. However, we still have yet to see any official confirmation from the Seminoles and Zenitz’s report would indicate that the redshirt sophomore remains out there for the wooing on the transfer market. As is, we’ll wait for confirmation from Ole Miss. Or FSU. Or whomever. Playing as a second-year freshman last season, the former three-star recruit logged 19 tackles and a sack across 13 contests. Lovett will be required to sit out the 2020 season with his future transfer team barring an eligibility waiver from the NCAA.

Lovett (6'4/315) made headlines when his father expressed dissatisfaction with a tweet from new MSU HC Mike Leach, which led to Lovett exploring the transfer portal and ultimately leaving the program. He performed well last season, recording 19 tackles and a sack in his first taste of game action. Lovett has played 507 career snaps to this point and will have to sit out the 2020 season unless he receives a waiver.

  • NE Defensive Lineman #96
Mississippi State redshirt sophomore defensive tackle has been offered a scholarship by Florida State.
Lovett (6'4/315) entered the NCAA transfer portal only three days ago, but new FSU HC Mike Norvell did not waste a moment before extending an offer to him. The former three-star prospect was ranked as the 18th best defensive lineman and seventh best recruit in Mississippi for the 2018 cycle. Lovett played in only four games in 2019, so he will be able to use his redshirt but will still need a waiver to play in 2020.

Mississippi State redshirt sophomore DT Fabien Lovett announced he is entering the transfer portal.
Lovett (6'4/315) was one of the players who was critical of Mississippi State head coach Mike Leach’s tweets that depicted an elderly woman knitting a noose. The defender appeared in only four games last year, so he’s able to count the 2019 season as a redshirt season. In his two years with the school, Lovett was credited with 19 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and a sack. If he does indeed transfer, he’ll need a waiver to play right away in 2020.
