August Third Baseman Rankings

Here are the August Rankings. Players are ranked for the remainder of the season based on how I believe they’ll perform in 5x5 leagues. Players are also listed at the positions where they’re most valuable, so if you don’t see that third baseman you’re looking for, he’s probably listed at second or short.

  • With the third baseman’s bat not making up for his extreme throwing problems, the Pirates were left with no choice but to bench Pedro Alvarez. Josh Harrison will take over that spot for the foreseeable future (he’s listed 16th at second base), and now the Pirates have to decide whether it’s worth sacrificing some defense to play Alvarez over Ike Davis at first. In truth, I doubt it is; Davis has been just about as productive as Alvarez against righties this year. The Pirates, though, won’t want all of Alvarez’s power to go to waste if they can help it. As a result, Alvarez stays in the top 20 for now. Davis might head to the bench once Alvarez gets comfortable at first base.
