  • It’s hard to feel very good about anyone here beyond the top eight, so I’m still going with upside over the guys who have put up steadier numbers thus far. Mike Zunino will go on a homer binge at some point, I assume. Yasmani Grandal has really fallen off -- and Austin Barnes has failed to take full advantage -- but Grandal has always been streaky and it doesn’t appear to be an injury situation this time. On the other hand, I still think Barnes would be a top-10 catcher if something were to happen to Grandal.

  • I liked Andrew Knapp as a sleeper going into the year because I thought Jorge Alfaro would prove too raw for the Phillies both offensively and defensively. Alfaro, though, has taken a big step forward defensively. There were no questions about his arm, but everything else seemed like a mess after his callup last year. This year, he’s gotten no such negative reviews. Still, it is interesting to note than Knapp, after a really slow start, has been excellent in limited action of late, going 12-for-35 with three homers in the last month. Alfaro has struggled offensively over the same timeframe, so I wonder if the Phillies might yet give Knapp a longer look. I’m guessing no -- I still have Alfaro 10 spots higher in the rankings -- but I do think Knapp could be an upgrade.

  • Willians Astudillo became one of the league’s most fascinating players the moment he was called up. His elite contact skills should hold up. I don’t expect a whole lot of power, but he can hit for average. His defense behind the plate leaves something to be desired, so it’s hard to say just how much he’ll play. However, Mitch Garver has his own set of issues there, too. Astudillo might not even need to catch to play, either, since he can stand at any position. Maybe he’ll even outhit Logan Morrison for a spell and start seeing action at DH. He’s not necessarily worth grabbing now, but he could prove to be a nifty option in two-catcher mixed leagues.
