Anthony Kay allowed five runs — four earned — over 3 2/3 innings in a loss to the Royals on Sunday.

Kay has alternated quality outings with clunkers for much of 2026, and this wasn’t an exception. After striking out eight over six scoreless Monday against the Guardians, the 31-year-old was nowhere nearly as effective while allowing six hits and three walks while striking out four. Kay will try and bounce back against the Guardians — this time in Cleveland — on Friday.

Sabathia: Skubal has to 'be himself' with Dodgers
With Tarik Skubal making clear he'd like to return to the Tigers as he delivers uneven early results with the Dodgers, CC Sabathia says the ace isn't "comfortable" in Los Angeles yet, where he's clearly "pressing."

Phil Maton has been diagnosed with a partially torn right patellar tendon.

Maton was placed on the injured list shortly after the All-Star break with tendinitis in his right knee, but unfortunately there is some structural damage. The right-hander received plasma injection three weeks ago, and his return for the 2026 season is very much in doubt.

Rockies activated RHP Jeff Criswell off the 15-day injured list and optioned him to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Criswell has been out of action since July 18 with a right shoulder strain. The 27-year-old could be an option for the Colorado bullpen before the end of 2026.

Rockies recalled INF Adael Amador from Triple-A Albuquerque.

Amador will get his first chance at MLB action after forging an .802 OPS with Albuquerque along with 11 homers and 11 steals on 18 attempts. The 23-year-old has been awful in his limited chances in the majors with a career .492 OPS, but he’ll get a chance to show why he was once considered among the best prospects in the Colorado system.

Rockies placed INF Kyle Karros on the seven-day concussion injured list.

Karros was forced to exit Tuesday’s game after he collided with Ezequiel Tovar, and unfortunately, the 24-year-old will need to miss time while going through the concussion protocol. Adael Amador is up to take Karros’ place on the roster, and likely in the lineup.

Brewers manager Pat Murphy told reporters that Jackson Chourio is currently dealing with a sore thumb.

Murphy misspoke Tuesday when he told reporters that it was Brice Turang that was dealing with thumb soreness. The 22-year-old outfielder is in the lineup for Wednesday’s game against the Padres, but fantasy managers should pay close attention to the situation.

Blue Jays claimed RHP Paul Sewald off waivers from the Diamondbacks.

Sewald was designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks, and it’s not surprising to see a team put in a claim, even with his struggles over the past month-plus. He’ll likely be a mid-to-late inning option while with Toronto.

Joey Ortiz (neck) is hitting ninth and playing third base against the Padres on Wednesday.

Ortiz is back in action for the first time since leaving Saturday’s game against Minnesota with neck tightness. The 28-year-old is a welcome return for the Brew Crew, as their infield depth has taken a hit over the last few days.

Brice Turang (thumb) is hitting second and playing second base against the Padres on Wednesday.

It’s a little surprising to see Turang back in the lineup after Brewers manager Pat Murphy suggested the infielder could miss some time. Milwaukee may need to manage the injury over the coming days, but obviously this is a wonderful sign for fantasy managers return to action this soon.

Athletics placed LHP José Suarez on the 15-day injured list with a right hip strain.

Suarez will be out of action for at least the next two weeks while he recovers. The 28-year-old will be replaced by Drew Rom, with Rom claimed off waivers prior to Tuesday’s game.

Athletics optioned RHP Yunior Tor to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Tor threw two innings and allowed three runs during Tuesday’s contest, so he’ll get the demotion to Triple-A to provide some fresh relief help. There’s a good chance Tor is up before the year ends.
