Junior Caminero went 2-for-4 with two-run homer in Friday’s win over the Mariners.

After taking a brief four-day hiatus from hitting homers, Caminero has now homered in back-to-back games. The slugger belted his 28th homer of the season in the bottom of the seventh inning to put the Rays up 6-2, as he continues to tear the cover off the ball. He’ll look to homer in his third-straight game when the two teams face off on Saturday.
McClanahan could go on short IL stint
Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Shane McClanahan left his last start early with back tightness and Eric Samulski thinks a short trip to the IL is in the cards to let him rest for a potential trip to the postseason.

Pirates recalled RHP Isaac Mattson from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Pirates placed 1B/OF Ryan O’Hearn on the 10-day injured list with a left quad strain.

O’Hearn is expected to miss 6-8 weeks, according to the team. The 33-year-old suffered the injury during Friday’s loss to the Reds while running to first base in the ninth inning. It’s a massive hit for the Pirates as they’ll be without one of their key middle-of-the-order run producers until at least mid-September. The encouraging news here is that there’s a chance O’Hearn is back for the home stretch, and a potential postseason run.

José Soriano was scratched from Saturday’s start against the Brewers.

Angels interim general manager John Mozeliak said in a team statement that Soriano won’t pitch this weekend due to the uncertainty of the next 48 hours leading up to Monday’s trade deadline. That doesn’t mean that a trade is imminent, but the club doesn’t want to take any chances. The 27-year-old righty has been the subject of plenty of trade rumors recently and it appears that Los Angeles will consider moving him for the right price. He’s in the midst of the strongest season of his career with a solid 3.29 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 127/57 K/BB ratio across 123 innings over 22 starts.

Marlins activated OF Owen Caissie from the 10-day injured list.

Caissie has been a borderline mixed-league relevant fantasy outfielder, delivering top-75 range value in his Marlins debut, hitting .239/.297/.459 with 12 homers, 50 RBI and four steals across 246 plate appearances. The 24-year-old former top prospect homered twice during a three-game minor league rehab assignment and had left the yard three times in his final seven games prior to hitting the shelf with a calf strain back in early July. He was never been a huge power threat as a prospect, but he’s probably going to reach 20 round-trippers in his first extended opportunity at the highest level. That’ll work for fantasy managers.

Mariners selected the contract of OF Stuart Fairchild from Triple-A Tacoma.

Fairchild gets his chance in Seattle with Luke Raley hitting the shelf with a forearm strain. He’ll occupy a bench role.
