The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya reports Enrique Hernández (oblique) will start a rehab assignment and could be active by July 28.

Hernández only played a game and change after coming off the injured list in late May from a surgically repaired elbow. The versatile utility man figures to have little fantasy value, but will be a boost for the Dodgers if he can get back on the field.

Freddie Freeman (hand, shoulder) was held out of the Dodgers’ starting lineup for Friday evening’s battle against the Brewers.

Freeman was banged up a bit as he fell into the Royals’ dugout while chasing a foul popup during Wednesday’s game. He returned to the lineup on Thursday but is still a bit sore so the Dodgers wanted to give him an extra night to rest. He’s considered day-to-day. Enrique Hernandez will start in his place at first base and will bat eighth against Brewers’ southpaw Robert Gasser.

Max Muncy is not in the Dodgers’ starting lineup for Sunday afternoon’s battle against the Diamondbacks.

Muncy will take a seat with left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez toeing the slab for the Diamondbacks. Enrique Hernández will start in his place at the hot corner and will bat eighth for the Dodgers on Sunday in Phoenix.

It feels like a workload management decision by Los Angeles to get the 36-year-old veteran off his feet in a one-sided affair, but he didn’t exactly look comfortable in his final at-bat. We’ll have updates on the situation as they unfold, especially if Freeman’s exit winds up being injury-related.

Hernández played six innings at third base and recorded a double in his first rehab contest. The versatile 34-year-old role player shouldn’t need too much additional time in the minors getting back up to speed before he returns to Los Angeles. He played just one game in his return from offseason elbow surgery before suffering a left oblique strain in late May. There’s a chance he’s activated at some point this weekend.

Andy Pages is expected to miss 4-5 weeks with a fractured left hand suffered Friday, manager Dave Roberts said.

Pages had X-rays tonight after all. Roberts didn’t say how the Dodgers intend to replace Pages, but former Diamondbacks center fielder Alek Thomas seems like the obvious choice. He could come up and play against most righties, with Tommy Edman moving to center against lefties. That would free up some infield time for Kiké Hernández and Miguel Rojas.
