Brent Suter officially heads to the Braves.

The 36-year-old Suter has a 4.12 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, and 55/17 K/BB ratio in 63 1/3 innings for the Angels this season. The lefty has been in the league for a decade but has only thrown two postseason innings. Still, he is an experienced arm that will help the Braves’ bullpen in their postseason push. Nacho Alvarez Jr. is a good defender up the middle, but is slashing .236/.337/.326 in 37 games in Triple-A this season with two home runs and four steals. He does have good plate discipline and doesn’t strike out much, so there are some traits to build off of for the 23-year-old.

Klassen threw 72 pitches in just two innings of work while allowing five runs. The right-hander will likely undergo testing to determine the severity of the injury — whatever that may be — and his status should be updated shortly. Even if Klassen is fine, there’s a good chance he’s sent down after this outing. Brent Suter has taken over on the mound.

The move was announced on Thursday and is now official. Suter had his worst season ever in 2025, but he’s posted a 3.57 ERA in 597 1/3 MLB innings and should provide solid middle relief for the Angels, perhaps filling the bullpen role Reid Detmers left behind in his bid to join the rotation.

The 36-year-old lefty hit the free agent market when the Reds declined his $3 million club option at the end of the 2025 season. Suter struggled to a career-worst 4.52 ERA and a 53/18 K/BB ratio over 67 2/3 innings. He would add another quality arm to the Halos’ middle relief corps.

Hays is one of three players that the Reds declined options on, with Brent Suter and Scott Barlow joining Hays. The 30-year-old outfielder dealt with injuries for much of the 2025 season, but he did post a solid .768 OPS with 15 homers and 64 RBI in his 103 appearances with Cincinnati. He’ll certainly have interest on the market, even with his injury history and less-than-spectacular defense.

Suter will kick off a bullpen game for Cincinnati after hard-throwing rookie sensation Chase Burns pitched just one frame before Saturday’s contest was ultimately postponed due to rain.

Suter operated as the opener against the Cardinals on Saturday. He tossed two frames, giving up two runs on a homer by Alec Burleson in the first inning. Nick Martinez followed with two clean frames. Suter holds a 3.25 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and a 23/9 K/BB ratio across 36 innings.

Suter will likely pass the baton to pitching prospect Chase Petty for a bulk relief outing after facing formidable lefties Brendan Donovan and Alec Burleson in the opening frame.

Suter will rejoin the Reds pen after three days away. Joe La Sorsa was sent down Thursday to open up a spot.
