Justin Steele (elbow) to start rehab assignment

Baker clearly wasn’t feeling well, and it affected his pitching with two walks and no outs recorded before leaving. The good news is this isn’t arm-related, so there’s a good chance Baker is closing games for the Rays in the coming days. Tyler Wells — who converted Friday’s chance after Baker exited — would likely get the chance if he’s unavailable this weekend.

Montes came up just short of making a spectacular catch against the wall, and while he was able to continue immediately after, the Mariners took precaution and took the outfielder out a few batters later. The specifics of the injury for the 21-year-old should be available soon.

O’Brien came in to protect a one-run lead and did just that. The 31-year-old blew his most recent save chance against the Dodgers on Thursday and has not been effective as of late, but he was at least able to convert his 36th save Friday.

Romano gave up a three-run homer to Ivan Herrera that turned a 6-4 lead for Colorado to a 7-6 deficit. The 33-year-old has pitched well prior to Friday’s scuffle, but this is was a less-than-friendly reminder of how much Romano has struggled the past few seasons. He should remain the closer for Colorado, but it’s damning with faint praise.

Rumfield and Cole Carrigg both tripled and homered in the contest. He also drew a walk, and hiS OPS is now up to .841 with 15 roundtrippers and 65 RBI. The Rockies are an objectively terrible baseball team, but the seasons of players like Rumfield and Carrigg create long-term optimism.

Carrigg’s homer was an inside-the-parker, and he was one of two Rockies who both tripled and homered Friday; TJ Rumfield being the other. The 24-year-old has gone deep seven times in 2026 with a solid slash of .266/.343/.460 in his 71 games. He should be a regular to begin 2026, and there’s some fantasy upside in his bat to consider for the foreseeable future.

It was Feltner’s first outing since being scratched last weekend due to illness. He allowed just one run over his first four innings, but surrendered three in the fifth in another mediocre — at best — outing for a pitcher that makes plenty of them. He’ll take an ERA of 5.91 into a scheduled start against the Yankees in New York next week. Steer clear.

It was Pallante’s first outing since being placed on the injured list with elbow inflammation. There was some clear rust — he didn’t make a rehab start — as he walked four against one strikeout while throwing just 38-of-72 pitches for strikes. Credit to him for giving up just one run, but, it’s worth noting this start came against the Rockies. Pallante doesn’t have another start scheduled yet, but it likely comes in the middle of next week, and it’s likely fantasy managers can ignore him for the time being.

It was smooth sailing for Martinez here through six innings. To that point, he’d allowed just four hits, one walk, and one run. Yet, the Rays decided to try and push him through the seventh despite already being at 79 pitches when he’s only averaged around 84 per start this season. He let two runners on, was yanked, and then reliever Garrett Cleavinger gave up a grand slam that let the Rangers right back in this game. Yet, the Rays narrowly escaped and Martinez earned his 14th win, tied for fifth-most in the league to go along with a gorgeous 3.04 ERA. He’s scheduled to face the Braves on the road next time out.

With the Cardinals trailing 6-4, Herrera became the hero with his three-run shot off Jordan Romano to give St. Louis the 7-6 lead and ultimately the victory. It’s the 15th homer for the 26-year-old, and he’s now slashing .246/.359/.380 on the year. You’d like to see that slugging percentage a few — or 40 — points higher, but Herrera has put together a solid if unspectacular campaign in 2026.
