Angel Martínez leaves game after collision

The 21-year-old outfielder got the Tigers on the board and evened the score at a run apiece as he swatted a 355-foot (95.2-mph EV) solo shot off of Rockies’ starter Mason Adams in the fifth inning. He was then plunked with two outs in the sixth inning and proceeded to swipe second base, take third on a wild pitch and score on a wild pitch. He has impressed in his limited big league action so far, slashing .258/.336/.430 with three homers, 17 RBI and four stolen bases in his first 145 plate appearances.

After striking out in each of his first two plate appearances, Dingler finally got off the schneid as he ambushed a first-pitch fastball from Nick Frasso for a 408-foot (107.4-mph EV) two-run shot that increased the Tigers’ lead to 4-1. It’s his first home run since homering in three straight games from August 4-6. For the season, he’s now slashing .246/.306/.460 with 27 homers and 87 RBI.

Greene broke a 1-1 tie with his RBI triple in the sixth inning. He then rode home on Dillon Dingler’s two-run blast. He then added on with a run-scoring double in the eighth inning that made it a 6-1 ballgame. With his three-hit attack, the 25-year-old outfielder is slashing a healthy .279/.369/.478 with 19 long balls, 67 RBI and three stolen bases in 531 plate appearances.

The Tigers entered the ninth inning with a comfortable 6-1 lead, but after the Rockies pushed a run across and had a couple of runners on base with two outs, Tigers’ skipper A.J. Hinch went to his closer to finish it out. The 38-year-old hurler got Connor Norby to strike out swinging to end the game. Jansen has now converted 19 of his first 25 save chances on the season while posting a 3.60 ERA.

The 32-year-old southpaw struck out two batters on the evening while allowing a pair of walks. The only run that scored against him came as Kevin McGonigle bobbled a ground ball with the bases loaded and two outs in the fifth inning. Otherwise, Valdez was in complete command. He got 10 whiffs on 90 offerings on the night, posting a CSW of 21 percent. He’ll look to continue his recent dominance as he brings a 4.01 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and a 121/60 K/BB ratio (163 innings) into Thursday’s showdown against the White Sox in Chicago.

As a team, the Rockies had ten hits in the contest, all of them singles. They were only able to muster one earned run against Framber Valdez and company though. The 24-year-old outfielder is now slashing .266/.339/.446 with seven homers, 39 RBI and nine stolen bases in 308 plate appearances.

Adams racked up five strikeouts on the night while issuing three free passes. The lone tally against him came on a solo blast off the bat of Max Clark in the fifth inning. The 26-year-old right-hander got seven swings and misses on 77 pitches in the contest, posting a CSW of 29 percent. Still without a decision on the season, he’ll carry a 3.38 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and a 22/9 K/BB ratio (18 2/3 innings) into Wednesday’s battle against the Padres.

The 27-year-old right-hander has made very slow progress in his recovery from a right elbow impingement and with only a couple of weeks left, it sounds like the A’s may just shut him down completely. If he doesn’t get it addressed surgically over the winter, it’s possible that the issue could linger into the 2027 season.

The 31-year-old hurler had been designated for assignment earlier in the week. The expectation is that once again he’ll elect free agency and re-sign with the Braves on a minor league contract. Stay tuned.

As long as everything goes smoothly there, he’ll then be activated from the injured list. The expectation remains that Schmidt will work out of the Yankees’ bullpen down the stretch which greatly limits his appeal for fantasy purposes.
