Angels acquired RHP Gregory Billo from the Royals for cash considerations.

Billo, 23, posted a 7.41 ERA and 17/13 K/BB ratio over his first 17 innings this season in Double-A. He had Tommy John surgery in 2012, but returned last season to make 13 appearances (10 starts) between rookie ball and Class A Lexington. It appears that he’s still trying to round back into form, but the Angels will take a chance on him.

Oswaldo Cabrera

Oswaldo Cabrera (ankle) said he will make his Spring Training debut Friday against the Rays.

The utility infielder has been sidelined all spring training while dealing with a fractured ankle suffered in May 2025. It’s unknown if he’ll have enough runway to be ready for the regular season or if the Yankees will carry him, but this certainly seems to be enough time for him to ramp into those situations.

Astros SS Jeremy Peña has a fracture in the tip of his right ring finger and will be reevaluated in two weeks.

Less-than-ideal news. Peña will miss the World Baseball Classic based on this timeline. It does still give him a chance to be ready for Opening Day, but it’s of course possible that he misses more time than this based on the fact that they’re planning a later reevaluation. Nick Allen profiles as the Peña fill-in at shortstop for the Astros if Peña misses the start of the season, and Allen won’t hack it as a fantasy option.

Xavier Edwards

MIA Shortstop #9

Marlins SS Xavier Edwards (calf) left Thursday’s Grapefruit League game against the Astros.

It was officially “tightness” in the calf. Not good. Edwards had been off to a .273/.357/.273 start for the Marlins in Spring Training, and had been 3-for-3 on the basepaths. The Marlins will likely release more on this in the near future, but the last thing fantasy managers want is an excuse for Miami to not unleash Edwards on the basepaths.

Josue Briceno

DET Catcher #80

Tigers prospect Josue Briceño underwent wrist surgery on Wednesday and there is no timetable for his return.

It’s a bummer for the prospect, who is likely to return to AA Erie when he’s able to play again. He hit .167 in 12 spring training at-bats with no walks and a strikeout. Briceño’s the fourth-ranked Tigers prospect per MLB Pipeline and figures to have a real shot at a major league job in the next few years.

Robert Stephenson

LAA Relief Pitcher #24

Robert Stephenson (elbow) will face hitters for the first time on Friday.

Stephenson still believes he’s on track to pitch Opening Day. His throwing progression has gone well after he threw off a mound this week for the first time, and now it’s on to hitters. If it continues, he should start appearing in Spring Training games towards the end of the month.

Dylan Ray

AZ Starting Pitcher #61
Diamondbacks optioned RHPs Dylan Ray and Yilber Diaz to Triple-A Reno; reassigned C Gavin Logan to minor-league camp.

Ray, who was added to the 40-man over the offseason, had an inflated 6.30 ERA for Reno in his age-24 season. He managed to appear in only one spring training game and took the loss. He profiles as an up-and-down starter if he can improve his command.

Brenton Doyle

COL Center Fielder #9

Rockies OF Brenton Doyle (wrist) hit in the batting cage on Wednesday and believes he can play tomorrow.

Doyle has missed a little over a week since leaving last Wednesday’s game against the Cubs with left wrist inflammation. This is a positive update on it that makes it seem likely it won’t linger into the regular season.

HOU Relief Pitcher #65

Astros manager Joe Espada said he believes Enyel De Los Santos (knee) could be available Opening Day.

De Los Santos will throw a bullpen on Saturday and could face hitters late next week, per the Astros manager. He’s not guaranteed a spot on the Opening Day roster even if healthy, but he should at least factor into the up/down consideration for the Astros in 2026.

Reiver Sanmartin

SF Relief Pitcher #48

Reiver Sanmartin (hip) left Colombia’s exhibition against the Pirates and is expected to miss the World Baseball Classic.

Sanmartin was covering first base on a grounder when the injury occurred. He’s expected to see an orthopedist on Wednesday. Sanmartin was competing for a spot in the Giants bullpen, but it now seems likely he’ll be behind enough to be questionable for Opening Day.

Shay Whitcomb

HOU Left Fielder #10

Shay Whitcomb homered twice as Korea defeated Czechia 11-4 in their WBC opener.

Whitcomb, fighting for a roster spot that doesn’t appear to be there on a suddenly-deep Astros infield, made the most of his WBC experience with a pair of homers off Jeff Barto and Filip Capka. Korea moves to 1-0 in Pool C and will take on Japan on Saturday.
