Brewers 3B prospect Brock Wilken suffered multiple facial fractures earlier this week when he was hit by a pitch.
Brewers general manager Matt Arnold told reporters Friday that Wilken did not suffer a concussion or any vision-related issues when he was hit in the face by a 94-mph fastball during Thursday’s game at Double-A Biloxi. He’ll be evaluated for surgery once the swelling has subsided enough to undergo addition testing. He’s going to wind up missing some time, but his long-term prognosis is much more optimistic than originally expected immediately after the injury.

Nelson Velázquez went 2-for-3 with a homer and four RBI on Sunday afternoon, powering the Cardinals to a 6-3 victory over the Nationals in Grapefruit League play.
The 27-year-old slugger started the scoring with a bang, crushing a 419-foot (109.4 mph EV) three-run blast off of Miles Mikolas in the opening inning. He also tacked on a run-scoring single in the fifth that increased the Cardinals’ edge to 5-3. He’s doing everything in his power to earn a spot on the Cardinals’ Opening Day roster this spring, hitting .333 (11-for-33) with four long balls and nine RBI.
Snell 'a really risky pick' in fantasy drafts
Eric Samulski reacts to news that Los Angeles Dodgers' starting pitcher Blake Snell will miss at least six weeks due to a shoulder injury and why fantasy managers should exercise caution with drafting him.

Richard Fitts pitched well during Sunday’s Grapefruit League victory over the Nationals, allowing two runs on one hit across 4 2/3 innings.
Fitts struck out five opposing hitters in the ballgame but also issued three free passes. He left two men on before reaching his pitch limit in the second inning — and they both rode home on Joey Wiemer’s three-run blast. Fitts generated 11 swings and misses on 78 pitches on the day, posting a CSW of 31 percent. He has struggled in his battle for a rotation spot this spring, posting a 5.79 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and a 9/3 K/BB ratio over 9 1/3 innings.
  • WSH Left Fielder #21
Joey Wiemer went 1-for-2 and swatted a three-run homer on Sunday, but it wasn’t enough to propel the Nationals past the Cardinals in Grapefruit League play.
Weimer crushed a 426-foot (106.7 mph EV) three-run shot off of Hunter Hayes in the second inning that briefly tied the score at 3-3. That would wind up being the extent of the Nationals’ offense though. It has been a rough spring offensively for the 27-year-old outfielder, hitting just .111 (3-for-27) with just one homer, three RBI and one stolen base. His chances of cracking the Opening Day roster have certainly diminished during Grapefruit League play.
  • WSH Starting Pitcher #36
Miles Mikolas struggled in a losing effort against his former club on Sunday, giving up five runs (four earned) on five hits over 4 2/3 innings against the Cardinals.
Mikolas also issued three walks on the afternoon while recording only one strikeout. The Cardinals jumped on him right out of the gate in this one as Nelson Velazquez swatted a three-run homer in the opening inning. The Cardinals then added single runs in the second and fifth innings. He got eight whiffs on 83 pitches on the day, registering an uninspiring CSW of 20 percent. He remains a poor fantasy option heading into the 2026 season.
  • BOS 3rd Baseman #11
Marcelo Mayer was scratched from the Red Sox’ Grapefruit League lineup on Sunday due to left knee soreness.
Mayer is on the fringe of the Red Sox’ Opening Day roster, so missing any time in the final days of spring training could be detrimental to his chances. He’s hitting a solid .273 (6-for-22) with a homer, two RBI and a 6/5 K/BB ratio across 27 plate appearances on the spring.
  • NYY Outfield #37
Yankees reassigned OF Marco Luciano and INF Braden Shewmake to minor league camp.
Neither player was a serious candidate to crack the Yankees’ Opening Day roster, but Luciano definitely didn’t help his cause during Grapefruit League play. He hit just .040 (1-for-25) with 10 strikeouts. Yikes. He’ll look to get back on track at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to start the 2026 campaign.
  • COL Starting Pitcher
Rockies reassigned LHPs Sean Sullivan, Konner Eaton and Adam Laskey, OF Drew Avans, RHP Eiberson Castellano and C Kyle McCann to minor league camp.
No major surprises among this batch of cuts, though Sean Sullivan showed out well during Cactus League play and likely put himself in a position to earn his first promotion to the big leagues at some point in 2026 when the Rockies need another starter.
  • SF Starting Pitcher #60
Giants’ manager Tony Vitello told reporters on Sunday that right-hander Hayden Birdsong was diagnosed with a Grade 2 UCL strain.
That’s certainly not ideal. The 24-year-old hurler is currently weighing his treatment options, but it sounds like he’s going to be shelved for a while. Expect him to open the season on the 60-day injured list.
  • CHC Right Fielder #27
Cubs’ manager Craig Counsell told reporters on Sunday that Seiya Suzuki (knee) is still waiting to be evaluated.
It sounds like Suzuki is still traveling back to Arizona from Miami where he suffered the right knee injury during Japan’s World Baseball Classic loss to Venezuela on Saturday night. Once the Cubs’ doctors and training staff are able to evaluate him, the team should have another update on his status. Stay tuned.
  • TEX Catcher #47
Rangers optioned C Willie MacIver to Triple-A Round Rock; Optioned RHP Jose Corniell to Double-A Frisco; Reassigned INF Jonah Bride, INF Cam Cauley, and RHP Gavin Collyer to minor league camp; Sent RHP Alexis Díaz outright to Triple-A Round Rock.
It’s getting to that point in the spring where teams are trying to get their rosters ready for Opening Day, so large batches of cuts are the norm. There are no major surprises in this group though. Jonah Bride could’ve possibly won a bench spot with a strong performance in the spring. Alexis Díaz will stay with the Rangers and try to work through his issues at the Triple-A level.
