Luis Rengifo is not in the starting lineup for Thursday’s game against the Athletics.
It appears to just be a day of rest for Rengifo. The 28-year-old will sit with Tim Anderson handling second base and hitting seventh.

Diamondbacks optioned INF/OF Tim Tawa to Triple-A Reno.
Tawa is hitting just .169/.265/.254 in 70 plate appearances with the Diamondbacks this season. He’s being sent down to make room for Pavin Smith (elbow) to come off the injured list.
Duran someone to add amid hot streak for Red Sox
Eric Samulski details Jarren Duran's recent hot streak for the Boston Red Sox and why he is someone to add in fantasy leagues whether via waivers or trade.
  • AZ 1st Baseman #26
Arizona Sports 98.7’s John Gambadoro reports that Pavin Smith (elbow) will be activated off the injured list.
Smith has not played since the opening series of the season after having surgery to remove loose bodies in his elbow. The 30-year-old hit .258/.362/.434 with eight home runs and 28 RBI in 288 plate appearances last season. He came into this season as the starter at first base against right-handed pitching. With Ildemaro Vargas playing well, Smith will likely replace Adrian Del Castillo as the team’s regular designated hitter.
  • SF Relief Pitcher
Giants selected the contract of RHP Wilkin Ramos from Triple-A Sacramento
Ramos was a minor league free agent signed away from the Pirates this offseason. He has a 2.00 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, and 27/7 K/BB ratio in 27 innings out of the bullpen in Triple-A. He’ll help the Giants in middle relief.
  • CWS Starting Pitcher #68
White Sox RHP prospect Tanner McDougal (forearm tightness) is throwing again.
McDougal has been sidelined since late April with forearm tightness. The 86th-ranked prospect in baseball, according to Baseball America, should be back in games around the end of the month and could be an option for the White Sox near the end of the summer if all goes well.
  • MIA Relief Pitcher #55
Marlins selected the contract of RHP Tyler Zuber from Triple-A Jacksonville.
Zuber had posted a 5.20 ERA and 43/16 K/BB ratio in 27 2/3 innings at Triple-A this season. He had posted two saves but should provide some length out of the bullpen in the short-term. Griffin Conine (hamstring) was moved to the 60-day injured list to open up a spot on the 40-man roster.
  • MIA Relief Pitcher #66
Marlins selected the contract of RHP Zach Brzykcy from Triple-A Jacksonville.
Brzykcy has a 5.24 ERA in 22 1/3 innings at Triple-A this season with a 26/12 K/BB ratio. He’s in his first season with Miami after spending his whole career in Washington. Andrew Nardi (ribs) was moved to the 60-day IL to create a roster spot.
  • MIA Starting Pitcher #59
Marlins optioned RHP Josh White to Triple-A Jacksonville
White allowed five runs on one hit with four walks in 2/3 of an inning on Sunday. He will go back to an impressive Triple-A statline of a 1.33 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, and a 28/15 K/BB ratio across 27 innings.
  • MIA Relief Pitcher
Marlins placed RHP Josh Ekness on the 15-day IL with a right calf strain
Ekness was seen on crutches in a team video after Sunday’s game, so this would make sense. The 24-year-old has a 1.69 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, and a 5/5 K/BB ratio across 5 1/3 innings in his six appearances. He was just called up on Friday and didn’t appear in a game over the weekend, so it’s unclear when/how he suffered the injury.
  • ATL Starting Pitcher #30
Hurston Waldrep (elbow) pitched two scoreless innings in the Florida Complex League on Monday.
Waldrep walked two, but he threw all six of his pitches during his 26-pitch outing. He was also consistently around 97 mph with his fastballs, so this was a positive outing overall. He can take up to a month on this rehab assignment, so we still wouldn’t expect him in Atlanta until the end of June.
  • HOU Relief Pitcher #64
Astros optioned RHP Logan VanWey to Triple-A Sugar Land
VanWey threw a scoreless inning, striking out two over the weekend. However, the Astros are set to bring Josh Hader (biceps) back off the injured list on Tuesday, so this frees up a spot for them to do that.
