Mets manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters Luis Robert Jr. will begin playing in minor league games next week.
Robert has yet to appear in a Grapefruit League contest this spring after coming over from the White Sox in a three-player swap last month. The 28-year-old will open the regular season as New York’s starting center fielder following back-to-back injury-marred campaigns. The health question marks aren’t going away, but Robert projects as a reasonable 20-homer, 30-steal threat for fantasy purposes, even in a truncated campaign.

Garrett Mitchell went 2-for-4 with a homer and four RBI on Thursday afternoon, powering the Brewers to a 10-8 victory over the Rockies.
Mitchell got the game started with a bang, crushing the first pitch thrown from Michael Lorenzen for a 462-foot (111.5 mph EV) solo shot. He then smacked a bases-clearing double in the fifth inning that gave the Brewers a 7-5 lead. Mitchell also drew a walk in the contest, reaching base safely in three of his four plate appearances. He’s off to a terrific start this spring, slashing .286/.500/.867 with a homer, four RBI and a 4/3 K/BB ratio. It looks like he’ll open the season as the Brewers’ starting center fielder and leadoff hitter, which makes him an intriguing late-round option from a fantasy perspective.

  • MIL 1st Baseman #9
Jake Bauers went 2-for-3 with a homer and a pair of runs scored as the Brewers dispatched of the Rockies in Cactus League play on Thursday.
Bauers singled off of Michael Lorenzen in the first inning, stole second base and raced around to score on an RBI single off the bat of Luis Rengifo. After being plunked in the fourth inning, Bauers clobbered a 431-foot (105.1 mph EV) two-run shot off of Davison Palermo in the fifth inning that made it a 10-5 ballgame. With his two-hit attack, he’s now hitting a blistering .545 (6-for-11) with a homer, two RBI and two stolen bases to open the spring.
  • MIL Starting Pitcher #54
Robert Gasser struggled during Thursday’s Cactus League outing against the Rockies, surrendering three runs on three hits over 2 2/3 innings.
Gasser struck out two batters in the ballgame while issuing three free passes. The Rockies scratched out a pair of runs against him in the opening inning, then tacked on another in the third on an RBI single by Kyle McCann. He got six swings and misses on 53 pitches on the day, posting a CSW of 28 percent. While Gasser is probably ready to assume a spot in the Brewers’ rotation, given their current mix of starters it seems unlikely that he would get the nod. The question now is whether he opens the season in a bullpen role or as a starter at Triple-A Nashville.
  • COL Shortstop #8
Ryan Ritter had a nice day at the dish in Thursday’s loss to the Brewers, going 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles, a run scored and a stolen base.
The 25-year-old infielder smacked a one-out double in the second inning but the Rockies were unable to cash him in. He then led off the fourth inning with a single, swiped second base and scored on a ground ball single by Nicky Lopez. Ritter also doubled in the fifth inning. With his three-hit attack, he’s now hitting .478 (11-for-23) with a homer, six RBI and three stolen bases to start the spring. He has seemingly locked up a bench spot on the Rockies’ Opening Day roster.
  • COL Starting Pitcher #24
Michael Lorenzen was knocked around during Thursday’s Cactus League start against the Brewers, allowing four runs on six hits in just 2 2/3 innings.
Lorenzen also issued a pair of walks in the ballgame while punching out a pair. The Brewers jumped on him right out of the gate as Garrett Mitchell slugged a leadoff home run and Luis Rengifo added a run-scoring single. They tacked on single runs in the second and third innings before the veteran right-hander was mercifully pulled. He got seven whiffs on 65 pitches on the day — four of those on his sinker — while posting a CSW of 28 percent. He’s likely to crack the Rockies’ Opening Day rotation, but Lorenzen should be avoided in all fantasy leagues unless you’re streaming against him.
  • ATH Left Fielder #21
Tyler Soderstrom blasted a grand slam in the second inning on Thursday, helping to power the Athletics to a 16-11 victory over the Angels in Cactus League play.
The A’s pushed a pair of runs across against Alek Manoah in the second as Nick Kurtz and Shea Langeliers each drew walks with the bases loaded. That prompted a pitching change to Aneurys Zabala. Soderstrom got ahead in the count 2-0 and then unleashed the fury with a blast to right-center that increased the A’s lead to 6-0. He finished the day 1-for-2 plus a walk. For the spring, the 24-year-old slugger is slashing a monstrous .450/.500/.800 with two homers and eight RBI in his first 20 at-bats.
  • ATH Right Fielder #25
Brent Rooker went 2-for-3 with double and a solo home run as the Athletics bested the Angels in Cactus League action on Thursday in Arizona.
Rooker followed Tyler Soderstrom’s grand slam in the second inning with a solo shot off of Aneurys Zabala that increased the A’s lead to 7-0. He then added a ground rule double in the third inning. The 31-year-old is having a nice spring thus far, hitting .316 (6-for-19) with a pair of long balls and four RBI.
  • ATH Starting Pitcher #19
Luis Morales was hit hard during Thursday’s Cactus League outing against the Angels, giving up two runs on four hits over his 3 2/3 innings.
The right-hander issued three walks on the day while punching out four. Despite the constant traffic on the basepaths, Morales was able to hold the Angels to just two runs — on a sacrifice fly by Zach Neto in the third inning and an RBI double from Bryce Teodosio in the fourth. The 23-year-old induced five swings and misses on 65 pitches in the contest, posting a CSW of just 20 percent. He’s tentatively expected to earn a spot in the A’s Opening Day rotation, but he’ll need to be better than this to make it happen.
  • LAA Right Fielder #27
Mike Trout went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored as the Angels fell to the Athletics in Cactus League play on Thursday.
After going down on strikes in his first at-bat, Trout singled in the third inning then doubled and scored on an RBI double by Jo Adell in the fifth. With the two-hit attack, the 34-year-old slugger is hitting an impressive .333 (5-for-15) with a pair of RBI to start the spring, though he is still searching for his first home run.
  • LAA Starting Pitcher #47
Alek Manoah struggled with his command during Thursday’s loss to the Athletics, surrendering five runs on three hits over 2 1/3 innings of work.
Manoah also issued five free passes while striking out three in the ballgame. He threw just 34 of his 64 pitches for strikes and walked in a pair of runs in the second inning. He then exited with the bases loaded and Aneurys Zabala served up a grand slam to Tyler Soderstrom that tacked on three additional runs to his line. Manoah got eight whiffs on the day, posting a CSW of 27 percent while his fastball velocity sat at just 91.2 mph (-2.3 mph). His chances his returning to fantasy relevancy in 2026 feel like an extreme longshot.
