NIAGRA FALLS, Ontario -- Heavy rain delayed Fridays second round of the Canadian Tours Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort Pro Am Classic.
Just as the opening round, which was suspended by darkness Thursday night, wrapped up, thunderstorms swept into Thundering Water Golf Club, dumping more than two inches of rain on the course. Action was suspended for most of the day before resuming late in the afternoon.
Play was suspended by darkness just before 7:00 pm.
Michael Harris, who won his first tour title last month in Michigan, opened with a 9-under 63 Thursday.
Harris had just made the turn with a 1-over 37 Friday to fall to minus-8, while playing partner David Mathis had a front-side 33 to get to within one shot.
Nationwide Tour member Ken Duke is also one back after turning at 34.
Brad Fritsch of Manotick, Ont. carded an opening-round 64 but was 4 over midway through his second round.
Second round play resumes Saturday morning, with amateurs and professionals competing in a two-net better-ball format. The professionals will be cut to the low 40 players, plus ties, for the third and fourth rounds, with those players competing for the $100,000 purse.
