DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The LPGA Tour announced on Thursday that a second event in Mexico has been added to the tour’s 2005 schedule. The Corona Morelia Championship will be staged April 21-24, 2005 at Tres Marias Residential Golf Club in Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico.
The 72-hole event will feature a $1 million purse, with a 138-player field, including six Mexican-born players.
‘Corona and the government of Michoacan are two top-level sponsors, the venue is magnificent and we expect the support of the local community to be overwhelming, so we are very pleased,’ said Ty Votaw, the LPGA commissioner. ‘We are thrilled to be able to showcase the best female golfers in the world to a new audience, not once, but twice in Mexico in 2005.’
Last month, the LPGA Tour announced their plans for their first visit to Mexico since the Bing Crosby International Classic, which was last played in 1975. The $1.2 million MasterCard Classic will be played at the Bosque Real Country Club in Mexico City, Mexico, March 4-6, 2005.
