Robert Murray of The Athletic reports that Jabari Blash has an agreement in place with the Rakuten Golden Eagles in Japan.
Blash was released by the Angels last month after batting .103/.200/.128 over 45 major league plate appearances in 2018. He spent the majority of the year at Triple-A Salt Lake, where he excelled to the tune of a .317/.431/.700 batting line with 29 home runs in just 83 games. It’s easy to envision the powerful 29-year-old outfielder having a good run of success overseas, a la Eric Thames.
  • INT Outfield #54
    Angels released OF Jabari Blash.
Blash, 29, appeared in 24 games with the Angels and hit just .103/.200/.128 over 45 plate appearances. He’s shown huge power potential at times -- mostly at the minor league level -- but he just doesn’t make enough contact to justify being an MLB player at this point in his career. He could see a market overseas or sign with another club as organizational depth.
  • INT Outfield #54
Padres placed OF Jabari Blash on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 19, with a sprained left middle finger.
Blash hasn’t played since last Thursday and will now get some extended rest. The Padres have called up the recently-acquired Luis Sardinas to take his place on the roster.
  • INT Outfield #54
Jabari Blash went 2-for-3 with an RBI single in Tuesday’s loss to the Brewers.
Blash was the only Padres batter to finish with multiple hits. Both of them went for singles -- as was the case for all six hits by the team. His RBI base knock in the sixth inning drew the Padres to within 3-2, but neither team would score again in the contest. Blash was called up on Sunday in the wake of Matt Kemp’s trade to the Braves. He was playing well down at Triple-A El Paso, but has yet to show enough of a major league spark to make him worth a fantasy flier.
  • INT Outfield #54
Padres recalled OF Jabari Blash from Triple-A El Paso.
He’s taking the roster spot of Matt Kemp, who has been traded to the Braves. Blash hit only .120/.241/.160 while striking out 13 times in 25 at-bats before the Padres designated him for assignment back in May. However, they kept him around via trade and he’s back up after batting .260/.415/.514 with 11 homers for El Paso. Blash is in right field and hitting fifth Sunday.
  • INT Outfield #54
Jabari Blash slugged a solo homer in Friday’s win over the Mets.
Ryan Schimpf slugged a grand slam in the first inning before Blash immediately followed him with a home run of his own. The Padres slugged four homers in the first three innings to grab an 8-2 lead. The Mets chipped away from there, but the Padres managed to hang on to win the ballgame. Blash has shown some pop and patience since returning from the minors at the end of July, but regular at-bats aren’t assured down the stretch with Manny Margot and Hunter Renfroe likely to make their way to the majors soon.
  • INT Outfield #54
Jabari Blash had an RBI single and solo homer in Tuesday’s loss to the Pirates.
Blash made it 2-0 with an RBI single in the first inning and closed out the scoring with a blast off of closer Tony Watson to lead off the ninth. It’s his second homer in eight games since being recalled. Blash is hitting only .204 over 31 contests this season but does have a .350 on-base percentage.
  • INT Outfield #54
Jabari Blash (finger) is rehabbing in the instructional league.
Blash has been out for almost a month with a sprained left middle finger, but he’s ready to return to game action. He could rejoin the Padres later this week.
  • INT Outfield #54
Jabari Blash (finger) has been shut down for the rest of the 2016 season.
Blash has been sidelined by a sprained left middle finger since mid-August. He will rest his injured digit for the next 4-6 weeks. The Padres hope he will be able to play at some point during winter ball. In 71 at-bats with the major league team this season, the 27-year-old outfielder hit just .169/.298/.324 with three homers and five RBI.
  • INT Outfield #54
Padres designated OF Jabari Blash for assignment.
The 27-year-old hit just .169/.298/.324 with three homers, five RBI and a 34/11 K/BB ratio in 84 plate appearances with the Padres in 2016. There’s a chance that he could pass through waivers unclaimed and continue to function as minor league depth for the Friars.
