49ers signed UNC LB Jeremiah Gemmel.
Gemmel (6'1"/226) made third-team All-ACC in 2021 by piling up 73 total tackles (6.5 for loss), one interception, and three passes defended. Gemmel is all heart with very little size and can get easily taken out by blocks. What Gemmel does have though, are all the intangibles you could want in a player. He was a two-time team captain, plays extremely hard, and his motor never stops. He also plays patient and disciplined, and he won’t get out of position often. Gemmel won’t be a point-of-attack defender, but he’ll do well as a run-and-chase backer that can fly around and assist on every play if he’s untouched by blockers.
