49ers promoted TE Je’Ron Hamm to the active roster.
It’s insurance with Vance McDonald (hip) and Garrett Celek (back) questionable for Sunday. The 49ers released RB DuJuan Harris in a corresponding move.
  • FA Tight End #48
Saints UDFA TE Je’Ron Hamm reportedly “stood out” at pre-training camp practices for his “athleticism and pass-catching skills.”
Hamm, who just turned 22, goes 6'3/236 with 4.65 speed and a 37-inch vertical. He played college ball at Louisiana-Monroe, catching 62 passes for 915 yards (14.8 YPR) and six TDs as a 20-year-old junior before an injury-plagued senior season. Hamm could be a practice squad candidate in New Orleans.
  • FA Tight End #82
Redskins TE Logan Paulsen traveled to North Carolina Tuesday to have his toe examined by Dr. Robert Anderson.
The Redskins are still trying to determine the severity of his injury. A trip to Dr. Anderson’s office suggests Paulsen might need toe surgery. Paulsen is a blocking tight end. Chase Dixon, Je’Ron Hamm and Devin Mahina will get more practice reps with Paulsen and Jordan Reed (hamstring) sidelined.
  • FA Tight End #48
49ers declared TE Je’Ron Hamm, DL Quinton Dial, S Jaquiski Tartt, OL Marcus Martin, OL Brandon Thomas, WR DeAndrew White, and LB Corey Lemonier inactive for Week 17 against the Rams.
There are no surprises in San Francisco’s season finale inactives. The 49ers have four tailbacks active against St. Louis: Mike Davis, Kendall Gaskins, Jarryd Hayne, and DuJuan Harris.
  • FA Tight End #48
Redskins promoted TE Je’Ron Hamm from their practice squad and released TE Anthony McCoy.
Washington making moves at tight end early in the week could suggest concern over Jordan Reed’s (MCL) Week 12 availability. Hamm is a catch-first tight end, while McCoy is more of an in-line type. Hamm is a more suitable backup for Reed. Derek Carrier, however, would start if Reed cannot play.
