Jesus Sucre has been activated from the inactive list at Triple-A Norfolk.

Sucre apparently solved his contract dispute with the Orioles. He was designated for assignment last Sunday and then sent outright to Norfolk a few days later. The 31-year-old catcher batted .210/.269/.242 in 20 games with Baltimore to open the 2019 regular season.

According to Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com, Jesus Sucre is involved in a contract dispute with the Orioles.

Sucre was sent outright to Triple-A Norfolk last Tuesday after being designated for assignment by the O’s. He apparently took issue with that transaction, or possibly with the change in financial compensation that came with it. The 31-year-old catcher is currently on Norfolk’s inactive list.

Jesus Sucre went 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored to lead his team over the Yankees 5-3 on Saturday.

He drove in a run with a single in the seventh inning, then plated Cedric Mullins and Joey Rickard with a double in the ninth. Sucre will split time behind the plate with Pedro Severino this year, at least until youngster Chance Sisco is ready to take over the gig. Fantasy owners shouldn’t expect many days like this from Sucre, who owns a weak .221/.258/.306 slash line in 227 career games.

Orioles GM Mike Elias said Monday that Mark Trumbo (knee) could be placed on the 60-day injured list.

Trumbo has appeared in six Grapefruit League games this spring, but the O’s don’t want to rush him back from the right knee surgery he underwent last September -- and it’s not like they’re trying to win games this year anyway. Placing the veteran slugger on the 60-day IL would open up a 40-man roster spot for Jesus Sucre, who is set to open the year as the primary starting catcher in Baltimore.

Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports that Chance Sisco could begin the season at Triple-A Norfolk.

Sisco has had a monster spring with a .323/.500/.710 batting line, four home runs and a 9/10 K/BB ratio, which had seemed to secure his place at the top of the Orioles’ catching depth chart. However, the O’s claimed Pedro Severino off waivers Saturday and evidently are considering pairing him with non-roster invitee Jesus Sucre at the start of the season.

Sucre missed the first three weeks of Orioles camp due to visa issues in his native Venezuela. He’s probably ticketed for Triple-A Norfolk to open the 2019 regular season, unless Austin Wynns’ oblique injury proves to be more serious than it’s currently being portrayed.
