Raiders selected Florida P Johnny Townsend with the No. 173 pick in the 2018 NFL draft.
Townsend (6’1/210) led the nation in gross-punting average (47.5, 47.9) in each of his final two seasons but was a boomer and not a placement punter, struggling to pin opponents deep in their own territory with only 42% of his senior-year punts landing inside the opposing 20-yard line. He will have a good shot to earn Oakland’s punting job after they moved on from Marquette King.
