Northwestern WR Kain Colter has withdrawn from the Senior Bowl to undergo ankle surgery, and will be sidelined 8-12 weeks.
According to the Chicago Tribune, the surgery is related to a “pre-existing” cartilage injury. Colter is making the conversion from quarterback. Rotoworld’s Josh Norris believes Colter flashed natural receiving skills in Mobile, and kept defensive backs off balance. Norris expects Colter to be drafted “closer to where Armanti (Edwards) was taken” than Denard Robinson’s position. Edwards was the No. 89 pick of the 2010 draft. Shoelace was No. 135 last April.

Vikings signed Northwestern WR Kain Colter.
Colter (5-foot-10 1/2, 198) played quarterback and wideout for the Wildcats, finishing his career with an 18:9 TD-to-INT ratio as a passer and combined four-year receiving stat line of 63-683-10.8-4. He averaged 4.9 yards on 449 carries. Colter couldn’t work out before the draft due to an ankle-cartilage injury that required surgery. He projects as a possible Brad Smith-type player. Although there are exceptions, college QBs have generally had a very difficult time transitioning to different positions in the NFL. Colter is a long shot to latch on even with a wide receiver needy team like the Vikings.

    Vikings waived WR Kain Colter.
Colter played quarterback and wide receiver for Northwestern. The Vikings will try to develop Colter on their practice squad.
