    Patriots released FB Kareem Huggins.
Huggins lasted only one day. Formerly a tailback with the Buccaneers, Huggins had been out of the league after suffering a devastating ACL injury in 2010. He’s eying a return to the league as a fullback.

Patriots signed FB Kareem Huggins and S Derrick Martin.
Out of the game last season following a catastrophic 2010 knee injury, Huggins is attempting to remake himself as a fullback. He’s only 5-foot-9, 198. A special teamer, Martin made 12 tackles in 14 games for the Giants last season.

Bucs activated RB Kareem Huggins from the practice squad.
A small back out of Hofstra, Huggins may be given a chance to handle punt return duties with Clifton Smith out for the season.

According to the St.Petersburg Times’ Rick Stroud, Cadillac Williams will split carries with Kareem Huggins and LeGarrette Blount going forward.
Stroud basically reported as much a week ago, and coach Raheem Morris has confirmed that Caddy’s workload will decrease. He has averaged just 2.5 YPC this season. Blount is the best sleeper of the group, as he should be the goal-line option. Huggins will see plenty of action on third down.

Kareem Huggins suffered a torn right ACL in Sunday’s loss to the Saints and will miss the rest of the season.
The camp darling was just starting to stamp his name on a timeshare with Cadillac Williams. It means that Caddy is going to keep getting the lion’s share of touches despite averaging an embarrassing 2.5 yards per carry on 76 totes this season. Rookie LeGarrette Blount is also set up for a role now, but this backfield remains one to avoid in fantasy.

Kareem Huggins limped to the sideline with a knee injury in the third quarter of Sunday’s game against the Saints and did not return.
Huggins was mixing in every third series or so for Cadillac Williams. The exact extent of his injury is unclear, but the Bucs will be hoping it’s just a sprain. If it’s a serious injury, LeGarrette Blount will likely get a chance to prove himself next week. Huggins ends up with three carries for seven yards and a 7-yard catch in Week 6.

The word out of the Bucs’ locker room was that Kareem Huggins may have torn knee ligaments in Sunday’s loss to the Saints.
We’ll find out for sure tomorrow after Huggins has his MRI, but his season could very well be over. Huggins’ foot was planted in the turf when he took a direct hit to the knee. It means that Cadillac Williams will continue to be used more than he should and LeGarrette Blount may finally get a real chance.

The Tampa Tribune suggests that Derrick Ward is in danger of not making the team this year.
A trade or a release are both realistic possibilities, according to the Tribune. Ward looked awfully sluggish on a rain-slicked field Saturday night while Cadillac Williams and Kareem Huggins both looked fantastic. Ward is due $3.25 million this year -- a lot to pay for a third-string tailback.

Coach Raheem Morris came away from Saturday’s game impressed with Kareem Huggins’ 10-touch, 71-yard performance.
“I don’t want to get too far ahead, but he showed great promise,” Morris said. “It’s what we’ve been seeing on the practice squad and what we’ve been seeing throughout this training camp.” Morris likes Huggins because he offers a change-of-pace from Cadillac Williams and Derrick Ward at 5'9/198 with 4.4 speed. He’s the favorite to open the season as the Bucs’ No. 3 back.

Kareem Huggins started Thursday’s preseason finale and rushed six times for 37 yards.
Cadillac Williams took the night off. Huggins is now the official No. 2 back and is going to be pressing for carries right out of the gate. He should be owned in all formats.
