A 4-3 defensive tackle at UConn, Reyes goes 6-foot-4, 299 and enjoyed a breakout senior season with 13.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. Considered a “relentless” defender, Reyes will play five-technique end in San Diego’s 3-4. The Chargers also used their first-round pick on a front-seven player (OLB Melvin Ingram), making good on their promise to add talent on defense.

A 40-game starter at UConn, Reyes offers intriguing size (6'4/300) and athleticism while also boasting short-area quickness and impressive intangibles. He could see playing time right out of the gates as an interior rusher in nickel packages.

“While it is early, all indications are the Chargers have potentially found something special in Reyes,” writes ESPN.com’s Bill Williamson, predicting the No. 49 overall pick will play a significant role “right away.” San Diego’s front-seven looks to be much improved this season.

Henne cites a strong finish to 2012, capped off by a 3.5-sack game against the Jets. Pro Football Focus ranked Reyes behind bookend Corey Liuget, and also considered him a liability against the run. However, he had a much stronger second half of the season, and will have an opportunity to carry that momentum into this year.

Reyes sat out the last two days of practice this week with a groin injury. Chris Baker (elbow, rib), Su’a Cravens (hip), Josh Doctson (Achilles) and Trent Williams (glute) are all active for Washington.

Reyes missed two games with a groin injury. He signed a one-year, $2.5 million deal back in March, but didn’t make an impact across 36 snaps. Chris Baker, Ziggy Hood, and Ricky Jean-Francois will man the 3-4 ends.

You almost never see a team sign four players in one day during the regular season, but the Chiefs are dealing with a number of injuries to depth players, and opened up a roster spot by trading away Knile Davis. Reyes flamed out as a $2.5 million free agent in Washington, getting cut two weeks ago.

We haven’t had a blurb on Reyes in nearly three years. The former second-round pick of the Chargers back in 2012, Reyes has appeared in all 64 games since entering the league, making 50 starts as a 3-4 end. Last year, Pro Football Focus graded Reyes as its worst 3-4 end, giving him dreadful marks for his run defense. He’ll compete for a backup job in D.C.

Reyes spent 2017 out of the league. He was a starter for the Chargers early in his career before bouncing between the Redskins and Chiefs. Reyes gives the Jets veteran training camp depth.
