The Denver Post’s Ryan O’Halloran doesn’t believe Royce Freeman’s role as the Broncos’ No. 3 running back is secure.
Free agent pickup Melvin Gordon and last year’s No. 1 Phillip Lindsay form the clear-cut one-two punch for new OC Pat Shurmur. Freeman is a capable back, but he doesn’t contribute on special teams, which is typically something coaches like to have from their depth players. Freeman has posted a mediocre 262-1,017-8 rushing line (3.9 YPC) across his two seasons since being drafted 71st overall in 2018. Perhaps GM John Elway will give him another chance, but he’s competing with Khalfani Muhammad and undrafted rookie LeVante Bellamy for a couple jobs.

  • FA Running Back
    Broncos waived RB Khalfani Muhammad.
Muhammad was the Broncos’ leading rusher in the preseason, converting 31 carries into 146 yards and a score. He also caught 9-of-12 targets for an additional 55 yards through the air. Muhammad possesses plenty of burst (90th-percentile Agility Score, per Player Profiler) and speed (4.4-second 40-yard dash), but it’s tough to imagine a team ever giving the 5-foot-7 and 170-pound running back too hefty of a workload.
  • FA Running Back
Khalfani Muhammad rushed seven times for 50 yards and one score, tacking on a team-high four catches for 24 yards in the Broncos’ 14-10 win over the Falcons in the Hall of Fame game.
His first Rotoworld blurb since ’17, Muhammad absolutely looked the part in Denver’s inaugural game of the 2019 season as the former Golden Bear track-star led the Broncos in rushing yards (50), catches (4), and receiving yards (24) Thursday night. Muhammad likely won’t make an impact in fantasy this upcoming season, but his standout performance (especially in the passing game) makes Devontae Booker completely expendable on the latter’s final year of his contract. Muhammad could slot in after Phillip Lindsay, Royce Freeman, and Theo Riddick in Week 1.

Titans selected California RB Khalfani Muhammad with the No. 241 overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft.
Muhammad (5'7/170) is a scatback through and through who doubled as a track star at Cal-Berkley, and ran 4.38 at the Golden Bears’ Pro Day. He topped out at 13.8 carries per game as a senior, averaging 5.4 yards per tote with 17 receptions. The Titans will likely give Muhammad a look on special teams due to his speed, although he averaged an underwhelming 22.2 yards per kickoff return in his college career and did not return punts.
  • FA Running Back
Titans promoted RB Khalfani Muhammad from their practice squad.
A 5-foot-7, 170-pound scatback prospect, Muhammaed was a seventh-round pick in April’s draft. With DeMarco Murray (knee) sidelined for Week 17, Muhammad will operate as the Titans’ No. 3 back behind Derrick Henry and David Fluellen.
