According to Steve Adams of MLBTradeRumors.com, right-hander Marco Estrada (back) still has plans to pitch in 2020.
Estrada has spoken to a few interested clubs already. He’s currently working his way back from the back issue that limited him to only 23 2/3 innings during the 2019 season and isn’t expected to be ready for game action until June. He could be worth a flier on a minor league deal for team’s looking for rotation depth.

    Athletics released RHP Marco Estrada.
Estrada had been sitting on the injured list since late April due to a back injury that required surgery, and he was struggling mightily on a minor league rehab assignment. This could be the end of the road for the 36-year-old right-hander, though there are plenty of desperate teams out there.

Marco Estrada (back) struck out two over a scoreless inning in his first rehab appearance with the Arizona League Athletics.
Estrada has been sidelined since late April following back surgery and is likely to need his full 30-day rehab allotment. The veteran right-hander posted a 6.85 ERA in five starts before the injury.

Marco Estrada (back) is unlikely to return to the Athletics until rosters expand.
Estrada has had a very slow recovery from his lumbar strain, and was recently transferred to the 60-day injured list. He is expected to return to bullpen sessions soon, but he’ll certainly need more than one rehab appearance, and we’re just a month and a half away from roster expansion. It’s very unlikely that Estrada is able to provide any fantasy help for the remainder of 2019.

Athletics transferred RHP Marco Estrada from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day injured list.
The move opens up a spot on the 40-man roster for Chris Herrmann’s return from the 60-day injured list. Estrada has already been sidelined for a couple of months following an ablation procedure on his back in late April, so this move doesn’t have an impact on his timetable. He’s still in the early stages of his throwing program.

Marco Estrada (back) threw 15 pitches off flat ground Thursday.
He only threw fastballs during the brief session. Estrada could get in a pen session as soon as Saturday, but he’s still a ways off from starting a rehab assignment. The former Blue Jay is about two months removed from a minor back operation.

Marco Estrada (back) threw a flat-ground session on Tuesday.
Estrada has been on the shelf since undergoing an ablation procedure on his back in late April and he still has many hurdles to clear. The veteran right-hander probably won’t be an option for the A’s before mid-to-late July.

Marco Estrada (back) is hoping to resume playing catch this week.
Estrada has been shut down for over a month following an ablation procedure on his back in late April. Obviously, it will be a while before he can rejoin the A’s rotation.

Marco Estrada said he’s feeling much better after undergoing an ablation procedure on his back in late April.
Estrada expects to make a few minor league rehab starts before returning to the A’s rotation, but there’s no exact timeframe for when those outings might happen. The veteran right-hander remains out indefinitely.

Marco Estrada had an ablation procedure on his back Tuesday.
The procedure “involves radio frequencies and requires no incision,” per MLB.com’s Martin Gallegos. So it’s nothing too serious. Still, there is no timetable for Estrada’s return from the injured list, and he’ll be shut down completely for at least the next several days. He had registered a poor 6.85 ERA through his first five starts this season with the Athletics.
