Broncos rookie OLB Von Miller was demoted out of base packages during Sunday’s loss to the Chargers.
Miller, the No. 2 overall pick, was removed in favor of Mario Haggan. “I didn’t play to the best of my potential. I’m pretty disappointed in myself,” Miller said. He still managed to record a sack late in the game, his fifth of the season.
  • FA Linebacker #51
Rams signed LB Mario Haggan and OT Barry Richardson.
Richardson struggled mightily as the Chiefs’ right tackle last season, but the Rams are giving him a kick of the tires at a position of severe weakness. He’s still only 26. Haggan, 32, appeared in 16 games with Denver in 2011, making one start and focusing on special teams. He was a starter in 2009 and 2010.
  • FA Linebacker #51
Mario Haggan is ticketed for strong-side linebacker and special teams in St. Louis.
Haggan will back up Jo-Lonn Dunbar. The Rams targeted both Dunbar and Haggan early in free agency, but decided to hold off on the latter until after the draft.
  • FA Linebacker #51
Rams LB Mario Haggan left Sunday’s game against the Jets with an elbow injury.
Haggan was billed as “questionable” in the first half, but was nowhere to be found after halftime. The reserve linebacker and special teamer will be iffy for Week 12.
  • FA Linebacker #51
Rams LB Mario Haggan left Thursday night’s game against the Cardinals with a thigh injury and is doubtful to return.
Haggan is a backup outside linebacker and core special teams player. He was signed as a free agent in the offseason.
  • FA Linebacker #51
The elbow injury Mario Haggan sustained during the Rams’ Week 11 loss to the Jets appears serious.
The Post-Dispatch believes Haggan will miss “several weeks if not the remainder of the season.” The backup linebacker and special teamer has 10 tackles in seven games this year.
  • ATL Linebacker
Bills LB Coy Wire suffered a grade 2 MCL sprain in Sunday’s loss.
Wire was on crutches after the game and coach Dick Jauron declared him “out indefinitely” on Monday. With usual starting weak-side ‘backer Keith Ellison out with a high ankle sprain, Mario Haggan is next in line for snaps.
  • BUF Linebacker
Despite returning to practice this week, Bills weak side linebacker Keith Ellison (ankle) is not expected to start in Monday night’s contest.
It looks like Mario Haggan or Leon Joe will get the nod on the weak side, with Angelo Crowell staying at SAM. Ellison should be back at full strength soon.
  • BUF Linebacker
John DiGiorgio is expected to take over as the Bills’ new starting middle linebacker with Paul Posluszny likely sidelined for the season.
Pozluzny’s injury will take eight weeks to recover from but coach Dick Jauron indicated he’ll be placed on I.R. DiGiorgio will have a ton of tackle chances as teams will slam Buffalo with the run. Angelo Crowell will presumably move to the weak side until Keith Ellison gets back. Mario Haggan will stand in on the strong side.
  • FA Linebacker #51
Mario Haggan was promoted from the Broncos’ third team to the starter at left outside linebacker Sunday.
Haggan has been strictly a special teamer since entering the league in 2003. He’s moved ahead of Tim Crowder and Darrell Reid, but Haggans’ two career sacks give us little hope that he’ll be a pass-rushing presence on the strong side.
