Nzeocha

Nzeocha appeared in five games, playing 94 of his 97 total snaps on special teams. The move saves $1.5 million in cap space for the 49ers.

Nzeocha considered signing with the Bills, who he met with earlier this week, but ultimately chose to re-up with San Francisco. The 29-year-old contributed on special teams last season while also drawing three starts at linebacker for the Niners.

Nzeocha has been projected for a depth role behind MLB Anthony Hitchens.

With Rolando McClain suspended for the first 10 games of the season and not guaranteed to return once the ban is over, the Cowboys need to find a reliable starter in the middle. Anthony Hitchens and Andrew Gachkar should get the first crack, but 2015 seventh-rounder Nzeocha will get reps as well. If all three fail to secure the spot, the Cowboys could look to bring in a veteran free agent.

He’ll miss the remainder of OTAs and this month’s minicamp. Nzeocha, a 2015 seventh-rounder, should be fine by training camp. He’s long been injury plagued, suffering an ACL tear as a college senior and a strained Achilles’ in 2016.

The Cowboys needed to clear a roster spot for LB Jayrone Elliott. Nzekocha has had trouble staying healthy, missing time with an Achilles injury last year and undergoing a knee scope in June. He’s played just 16 snaps since entering the league as a seventh-round pick in 2015.

Nzeocha is recovering from a June knee scope. He missed all but five games of 2016 to a strained Achilles’ and will be moved slowly. Nzeocha should be fine for Week 1.

The No. 236 overall pick, Nzeocha ran 4.52 at his Pro Day with a 39-inch vertical. He’ll need to impress on special teams early in his career.

Nzeocha (6'2/232) played outside linebacker and safety for the Cowboys, finishing his career with 13.5 tackles for loss, five forced fumbles, and one interception. Nzeocha tore his ACL last October, but ripped up his April Pro Day, running 4.52 with a 10-foot-11 broad jump and 39-inch vertical. Already 25 years old, Nzeocha’s ticket to playing time will be on special teams with some potential to contribute as a dime linebacker.
