Free agent K Matt Ammendola worked out for the Lions on Friday.
Per ESPN’s Field Yates, the Lions also worked out Lucas Havrisik, Matthew McCrane and Andre Szmyt following Michael Badgley’s season-ending injury. Ammendola (67.0 percent) and Havrisik (75.0 percent) are coming off shaky field-goal conversion rates in 2023. McCrane (80.0 percent) and Szmyt (87.0 percent) fared better in their recent UFL stints, though none of the four inspire confidence. The Lions’ fantasy-friendly kicker role may underwhelm in 2024.

Texans K Ka’imi Fairbairn is expected to play in Week 15 against the Titans.
Fairbairn has missed more than a month of game action with a lingering quad injury that landed him on injured reserve. He should be back for this week’s game against Tennessee. An injury-marred Houston offense makes Fairbairn a very shaky fantasy option for the rest of the season. The Texans have the sixth most field goal attempts (29) in 2023.
  • HOU Kicker #15
Texans beat writer Aaron Wilson reports Ka’imi Fairbairn “needed another week on IR” and won’t play in Week 14 against the Jets.
According to Wilson, Fairbairn is faring well in his recovery from a strained quad; he’s just not quite ready to go this week. The team won’t be activating him from injured reserve ahead of Sunday’s game against the Jets and has instead elevated Matt Ammendola from the practice squad. Ammendola is 6-of-9 on field goal attempts this season and made all three of his attempts in last week’s win over the Broncos.
  • FA Kicker #16
    Texans waived K Matt Ammendola.
The decision to waive Ammendola comes hours after the Texans claimed EDGE Derek Barnett off waivers from the Eagles. Ammendola missed a potential game-tying field goal from 58 yards out in the Texans’ Week 12 loss to the Texans, but his time with Houston was always expected to be short. An injury to Ka’imi Fairbairn earlier in the year resulted in Ammendola being signed off the team’s practice squad on November 11th. Ammendola converted three of his six field goal attempts in three games with the Texans but missed his last three attempts.
  • HOU Kicker #16
    Texans signed K Matt Ammendola.
Ammendola was signed from the practice squad with Ka’imi Fairbairn expected to miss the next three weeks. The third-year kicker has converted 69.2% of field goals and 86.4% of extra points as a part-time kicker the last two seasons.
  • HOU Kicker #15
Texans K Ka’imi Fairbairn will not play in Week 10 against the Bengals.
Matt Ammendola was signed to the Texans’ practice squad earlier this week. He will be called up for kicking duties versus Cincinnati. Ammendola is a viable fantasy option for managers looking to the waiver wire, though the Texans aren’t projected to score points in droves as road underdogs to the Bengals this week.
  • HOU Kicker #15
Texans K Ka’imi Fairbairn hasn’t practiced since departing the team’s Week 9 victory over the Bucs with a quad injury.
Unless Fairbairn can return on Friday, Matt Ammendola will handle kicking duties against the Bengals.
  • BUF Kicker #15
Cardinals coach Kilff Kingsbury said he’s “hopeful” that Matt Prater (hip) will be day-to-day this week.
He’s hopeful because the Cardinals failed to trust Matt Ammendola almost at all in today’s game, as they went for it three times inside the Seattle 30 on fourth downs rather than trusting Ammendola. They failed all three times, and Kingsbury admitted that not having his main kicker factored into those decisions and said they’d “have to discuss” if Ammendola would play on Thursday if Prater wasn’t up. Long story short: Ammendola does not appear to have garnered much confidence inside the Arizona locker room.

  • Cardinals signed K Matt Ammendola.
Ammendola filled in as a practice squad elevation with Matt Prater (hip) sidelined in Week 5. This signing suggests the Cardinals expect Prater to miss more time. Ammendola made both of his extra points and one field goal last week but missed a potential game-tying kick with just 22 seconds left in the game.

  • BUF Kicker #15
Matt Prater (hip) remained sidelined for Thursday’s practice.
Prater briefly kicked through the issue in Week 4 before giving way to Eno Benjamin on kickoffs. He isn’t appearing likely to suit up against the Eagles. Practice squadder Matt Ammendola would be the next man up. We would not stream Ammendola vs. Philly.
