Dolphins waived/released WR Matt Hazel, LB Akil Blount, C Ruben Carter, WR A.J. Cruz, LS Ryan DiSalvo, TE Gabe Hughes, K Marshall Koehn, CB Al Louis-Jean, G Vinston Painter, CB Brandon Harris, and WR Brandon Shippen.
A sixth-round pick in 2014, Hazel is the biggest name from this group. He could catch on somewhere else. With Koehn cut, Andrew Franks appears to have won the kicker job despite a bad miss in the third preseason game.
  • FA Wide Receiver #83
Redskins signed WR Matt Hazel, LB Rufus Johnson, DL Joey Mbu, OL Ronald Patrick, DB Shak Randolph, TE Wes Saxton, WR Kendal Thompson and T Isaiah Williams to reserve/future contracts.
Most of the players listed were already on the Redskins’ practice squad. All of them face to an uphill battle to crack the final 53-man roster.
  • FA Wide Receiver #83
Dolphins sixth-round WR Matt Hazel will miss multiple practices due to a concussion.
Hazel’s head injury is unlikely to linger, but we still like to keep a record of concussions. The small-school rookie is battling for a spot on the roster as a developmental slot man.
  • FA Wide Receiver #83
The Miami Herald considers sixth-round WR Matt Hazel a long shot to make the Dolphins’ 53-man roster.
Hazel is a good route runner and sure-hands catcher, but lacks special qualities and is a slot receiver on a team that already has too many of them. Locks to make the Dolphins’ roster at wideout include Mike Wallace, Brian Hartline, and second-round pick Jarvis Landry. Brandon Gibson is another good bet, assuming his knee checks out. Hazel will compete for the No. 5 receiver job.
  • FA Wide Receiver #83
Dolphins signed sixth-round WR Matt Hazel to a four-year contract.
Hazel has experience in the slot and is a good route runner with sticky mitts. He’s going to have a heck of a time cracking the roster. Hazel will compete for the No. 5 job, along with guys like Damian Williams and Rishard Matthews.
  • FA Wide Receiver #83
Dolphins selected Coastal Carolina WR Matt Hazel with the No. 190 overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft.
Hazel (6-foot-1, 198) set a school record for career catches (183) with the Chanticleers, racking up 2,553 yards (14.0 YPR) and 28 touchdowns. He ran 4.50 at the Combine with a 36 1/2-inch vertical and 9-foot-10 broad jump. Hazel has slot experience and showed excellent route-running chops in January’s East-West Shrine practices. A natural hands catcher, Hazel has a chance to develop into an inside-the-numbers No. 3 receiver in the pros.
  • FA Wide Receiver #83
Dolphins declared WR Matt Hazel, OL Jeff Linkenbach, DT A.J. Francis, CB Tony Lippett, S Jonathan Dowling, LB Chris McCain, and C Sam Brenner inactive for Week 6 against the Titans.
Brent Grimes (knee) and Branden Albert (hamstring) are good to go.
  • FA Wide Receiver #83
Dolphins re-signed exclusive rights free agent WR Matt Hazel to a one-year, $525,000 contract.
Hazel appeared in five games last season, but didn’t catch a pass. He posted a 14-204-1 line last preseason and is back to compete for a job.
  • FA Wide Receiver #83
    Colts signed WR Matt Hazel.
He’s a former sixth-round pick of the Dolphins. The signing indicates Chester Rogers (hamstring) isn’t near a return.
  • FA Wide Receiver #83
Dolphins waived WR Matt Hazel and G/C David Arkin.
Arkin’s fate was sealed when the Dolphins brought in Samson Satele. A sixth-round pick this season, Hazel could be signed to the Dolphins’ practice squad.
