“Mike Mo brings all the experience and so he would start if we had to start a game today, he’s just ahead of the other guys,” Carroll said. “But both Cassius [Marsh] and [Eric Pinkins] have done a great job of battling and those guys are getting a great shot.” In addition to the names Carroll mentioned, Kevin Pierre-Louis and Frank Clark could get a shot at Bruce Irvin’s old role. The competition is as wide open as competitions can be entering camp.

Morgan has been battling a sports-hernia issue. He’s mainly a special teams player and could be a candidate to be activated from IR later in the year.

Morgan had been out since Week 4. He’s mainly a special teamer, but could see some time on the strong side when Seattle plays in base sets. The Seahawks placed LB Jordan Tripp on IR in a corresponding move.

Morgan was limited to nine games due to injuries last year. He made three starts on the strong side for Seattle, but is mostly a special teamer. Morgan should sign for close to the veteran minimum.

LB Arthur Brown was cut in a corresponding move. Limited to nine games last year, Morgan did not find much of a market as a free agent. He will compete for a role at strong-side linebacker, but his biggest contributions likely will come on special teams if he cracks the final roster.

Morgan was set to become a restricted free agent, but will be brought back at the veteran minimum after playing just 27 snaps on defense last season.

Morgan visited the Steelers, but re-signed with Seattle after playing 97 snaps and starting two games last year. He’ll return in a special teams role.

GM John Schneider envisions DE Frank Clark taking Irvin’s pass-rushing snaps, with Cassius Marsh and Michael Morgan competing for coverage duties. A 2015 second-rounder, Clark played 330 snaps as a rookie, showing the ability to get after the quarterback. Listed at 272 pounds, Clark has already dropped 15 pounds — which would help him in coverage — suggesting that despite talk of a committee, the Seahawks could ultimately envision him as Irvin’s wholesale replacement.

Morgan saw time at both strong and weak side linebacker last season, totaling 17 tackles and one sack over 14 appearances. A core special teamer, Morgan shouldn’t be expensive.
