Tigers ''ace’’ Mike Maroth will start Thursday on normal rest. Bernero, Nate Cornejo and Gary Knotts will start this weekend.

Bernero may not need 60 days off, but the Rockies want his 40-man roster spot available.

The Rockies are so desperate for 40-man roster spots that they may place Bernero on the 60-day DL even though he’d probably be ready to return before the end of April.

In four outings this spring, Bernero has a 7.31 ERA. He’s not recommended in fantasy leagues. With the way things are shaping up now, there are going to be quite a few Triple-A rotations that could outpitch Detroit’s starting five.

He’s on the 60-day DL and won’t be back until June.

Bernero will work as a starter when he begins his rehab assignment.

He did say, however, that Jeff Francis won’t be called up just yet.

After that, Bernero will return to Denver for workouts before joining Triple-A Colorado Springs’ rotation.

Bernero left with a 3-1 lead, but closer Ambiorix Burgos blew the save and gave the Indians the win in the ninth. Bernero could head back to the minors tomorrow, but since he struck out five and pitched well, the Royals have nothing to lose by giving him another start. He won’t be worth using in fantasy leagues, however.

Well, the Royals are just bursting with quality pitchers. What else could they possibly do? Bernero won’t have any fantasy value at all while joining Mark Redman, Odalis Perez, Jorge De La Rosa, Runelvys Hernandez and Luke Hudson in the rotation.
