    According to Christina De Nicola of MLB.com, left-handed pitcher Adam Conley has retired from baseball.
    The former second-round pick posted a 4.71 ERA and 1.40 WHIP over 434 innings and six seasons with the Marlins and Rays.

Conley posted a 2.29 ERA over 19 2/3 innings this season for the Rays with a 1.02 WHIP and it’s possible the left-hander is claimed by another team.

    Conley was placed on the COVID-19 IL on Tuesday morning and now there is confirmation from the Rays that he indeed has contracted the virus. He’ll be quarantined for the next 10 days and might not be available in the playoffs unless Tampa Bay is able to go on a deep run.

    Conley will give the Rays’ overtaxed bullpen some additional reinforcement ahead of Saturday’s matchup against the Twins. The 31-year-old lefty last appeared in the majors with the Marlins back in 2019. He’s recorded a pedestrian 4.35 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 34/18 K/BB ratio across 31 innings (27 appearances) at Triple-A Durham this season.

    Conley signed with the Rakuten Golden Eagles in Japan over the offseason but opted out of playing due to the country’s worsening COVID-19 situation, per Jim Allen of jballallen.com. The left-hander showed promise a few years back with the Marlins but has fallen on hard times since then.

    The former Marlins lefty heads overseas after being designated for assignment in August. Conley, 30, didn’t pitch in the majors in 2020 and held a 4.82 ERA and 1.42 WHIP in 414 1/3 career innings with the Fish.
