Rangers purchased the contract of INF Alberto Gonzalez from Triple-A Round Rock.
An expected move. Gonzalez has a pretty lousy .241/.281/.317 batting line in the big leagues, but will add some versatility off the Rangers’ bench.

Ian Kinsler is not in Monday’s lineup against the Royals.
He’s just getting the night off. Alberto Gonzalez will make the start at second base while Elvis Andrus slides into the leadoff spot.

Alberto Gonzalez has made the Rangers’ Opening Day roster as a utility infielder.
Gonzalez, a non-roster invitee, is hitting .293 (12-for-41) with one home run and seven RBI during Cactus League play. The 28-year-old owns an underwhelming .241/.281/.317 batting line over 908 plate appearances in the majors, so he isn’t fantasy relevant.
  • TEX Shortstop #18
Elvis Andrus is not starting Thursday afternoon.
It’s just a simple off day for Andrus, who had started every game thus far. Alberto Gonzalez is playing shortstop.
  • TEX Third Base Coach #29
Adrian Beltre left Saturday’s game against the Tigers with an apparent left hamstring injury.
Beltre went 2-for-2 with a double and a run scored before exiting. The Rangers have yet to confirm the injury or the severity. Alberto Gonzalez replaced him in the lineup.
  • TEX Shortstop #18
Elvis Andrus will serve as the Rangers’ designated hitter Wednesday against the Blue Jays.
Just a way to give Andrus a bit of a breather. Alberto Gonzalez will start in his place at shortstop.
  • TEX Third Base Coach #29
Adrian Beltre (leg soreness) is not in Tuesday’s lineup against the Blue Jays.
Beltre experienced some discomfort running on the artificial turf Monday night, so the Rangers don’t want to take any chances given his history of hamstring issues. He could possibly sit out Wednesday’s matinee, as well. Alberto Gonzalez will start in his place Tuesday night.

    Padres released INF Alberto Gonzalez.
Gonzalez, 28, batted just .215/.256/.283 with a .539 OPS over 267 plate appearances this season. The Padres also plan to release Jeremy Hermida later this week as they arrange their 40-man roster in anticipation of December’s Rule 5 Draft.

    Padres waived INF Alberto Gonzalez.
Gonzalez posted a rough .215/.256/.283 batting line in 267 plate appearances this year for San Diego. The 28-year-old will now go on the hunt for a minor league deal.
  • DET 2nd Baseman
Rangers signed INF Alberto Gonzalez to a minor league contract.
The 28-year-old batted just .215/.256/.283 with a .539 OPS over 267 plate appearances this past season. But, he can play a variety of positions and will have a shot to crack the Opening Day roster as a utility player.
