Phillies signed 1B Alex Binelas to a minor league contract.
One of the ancillary components of the ill-fated Hunter Renfroe trade with the Brewers back in 2021, Binelas was cut loose last week by the Red Sox after never making it to Fenway Park. He recorded a solid .823 OPS in 13 games this season for Triple-A Worcester before being jettisoned. The 25-year-old former third-round pick from the 2021 MLB Draft will head to Philadelphia for a fresh start.

Red Sox acquired INF Alex Binelas, OF Jackie Bradley Jr. and INF David Hamilton from the Brewers for OF Hunter Renfroe.
Binelas was a third-round selection of the Brewers last June. The 21-year-old hit .314/.379/.636 with nine homers across 132 plate appearances at Low-A Carolina last summer. He’s several hyperspace jumps from the majors but represents in interesting gamble for the Red Sox.
