Guardians optioned RHPs Daniel Espino and Franco Aleman to Triple-A Columbus; Reassigned LHP Ryan Webb and OF Alfonsin Rosario to minor league camp.

Espino impressed during Cactus League play, but there was never going to be a spot available for him in the Guardians’ Opening Day rotation barring injury. He’ll work out of the rotation at Triple-A Columbus to start the season and should be one of the first names to get the call when someone hits the injured list or the Guardians need a spot starter.

Alfonsin Rosario

Guardians acquired OF Alfonsin Rosario from the Cubs for RHP Eli Morgan.

Rosario was the Cubs’ sixth-round pick in 2023, and spent last year with Low-A Myrtle Beach. He performed decently in 2024 with a .767 OPS, 16 homers and 20 stolen bases. He’s a long-term fantasy play, but one with a smidgen of intrigue because of some power/speed potential.
