Aplin

Aplin was designated for assignment by Houston earlier this week to clear a 40-man roster spot for Jordan Jankowski. The 26-year-old outfielder was batting .250 with a .720 OPS in 105 plate appearances this season for Triple-A Fresno. He’ll be organizational outfield depth for Seattle at Triple-A Tacoma.

He’s now off the 40-man roster. Aplin, 26, was acquired from the Astros last month.

The move protects the 24-year-old outfielder from next month’s Rule 5 draft. Aplin had a terrific 2015 season split between Double-A Corpus Christi and Triple-A Fresno, hitting .296/.413/.379 with two homers, 40 RBI and 32 stolen bases. He should get a chance to contribute at the big league level at some point in 2016.

Aplin hit just .185 this spring, but he wasn’t going to break camp with the big club regardless. The 25-year-old should debut at some point in 2016, however.
