Mets signed RHP Arquimedes Caminero to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Caminero comes back to the MLB -- or at least the MLB system -- after spending the last two years with the Yomiuri Giants. The 31-year-old right-hander struggled in 2018 with an ERA of 5.79 in Japan, but the previous year he registered a 2.42 mark with 65 strikeouts in 63 1/3 innings. He was last seen pitching in the majors for the Mariners in 2016, coming over to Seattle in a late-season deal with the Pirates. He has an elite fastball, but control/command has been an issue for Caminero in all of his stops. He does have a career ERA of 3.83 in 155 innings despite those issues, and he’ll have a chance to win a job in the back of the Mets’ bullpen in 2019.
