Indians signed RHP Blake Stein to a minor league contract and assigned him to extended spring training.

Stein didn’t last long in Rays camp this spring, but the stuff is still there for him to emerge as a successful reliever someday. Maybe the Indians will have more luck with him than Kansas City and Tampa Bay did.

Expos signed RHP Blake Stein to a minor league contract and assigned him to Triple-A Edmonton.

Stein was released by the Indians after allowing eight runs in 2 2/3 innings for Double-A Akron last month. He’ll replace Sun Woo Kim on Edmonton’s staff.

Stein probably isn’t going to make it back to the majors. He had a 5.16 ERA in 52 1/3 IP for Triple-A Edmonton and a 9.14 ERA in 21 2/3 IP in Double-A last season.
