Cassevah

Cassevah battled shoulder inflammation all spring related to a previously-torn labrum. He probably won’t be ready to join the Angels’ bullpen until late April.

Cassevah has yet to make his Cactus League debut due to a slight tear in his shoulder, an injury which was diagnosed last year but did not require surgery. The 26-year-old right-hander was making steady progress until the shoulder tightened up following a bullpen workout. The timeline for his return isn’t yet clear.

Cassevah, who began the year on the DL with a sore right shoulder, has a 6.14 ERA and 4/5 K/BB ratio over 7 1/3 innings this season between High-A Inland Empire and Triple-A Salt Lake. He’ll continue to work out the kinks in the minors.

The right-hander dealt with a shoulder issue last spring, as well, and wound up beginning the year on the disabled list. It doesn’t sound like this situation is as serious, though. If healthy, Cassevah will compete for a middle relief role.

LaTroy Hawkins will be activated from the disabled list prior to Saturday’s game. Cassevah made four relief appearances with the Angels and will return to a 6.75 ERA in the minors.

Weaver threw just 12 pitches before suffering the injury. He attempted to throw a warm-up pitch to see if he could continue, but he had trouble putting weight on his left leg. He gave up one run on two hits and an error before leaving the game. Bobby Cassevah has replaced him in relief. Stay tuned for an update on his status.
